How to teach a child speed reading in grades 1-2: a syllable table and other exercises on the quick reading technique

These games, exercises and tips will help teach your child to read quickly and correctly.

We have already said that the process of learning to read is very long and it begins from the very birth of the child. To start reading, a child must understand that graphic symbols - letters - are added up into words. For each child, this moment comes at a different time. Someone at 5 years old is already able to read fluently, and for someone at 7 years old reading is a difficult task.

To begin with, remember that reading requires attention, perseverance, observation, and brain maturity. In addition, the most important factor is motivation - the child will never begin to read if he does not want to.

Motivation problem

Preschoolers and first graders do not really have many opportunities to love reading. Indeed, at the moment, the most interesting books are not yet available to them, since they are too voluminous. What to do in this case?

  • Read aloud with your child . First, agree that you are reading the page, and the child is one sentence, gradually the volume of reading by you and the child should be equal.
  • Try to find interesting book with a small amount of text , it can be: a book of poems, a children's encyclopedia, comics, and even a collection of jokes.
  • Use external motivation, such as a game.
  • The book that you propose to read to the baby should not be voluminous with small print and without pictures. The baby needs to submit the text “in portions”.
  • Reading should not be punished To encourage for him is also not necessary, as well as to punish.
  • Try to choose such works on which films or cartoons were shot: read the book first and then watch the movie , paying attention to the fact that not all interesting moments from the book were made into films, and in general the book is much more interesting than the film.
  • Read for yourself . The child must see that parents enjoy reading.

In conclusion, we say that not all children are able to learn to read correctly and without errors without the help of a specialist. There is such a problem as dyslexia, which we will discuss in the following articles.

What to look for?

With a child you constantly need to be engaged. Pay attention to the following areas:

The development of anticipation (or divination). When an adult reads, he foresees the following words, phrases, meaning, sees the structure, and he has a general vision of the text. The child does not own reading to such an extent, he recognizes printed at the level of syllables and the next word. He has all the forces directed at this, so he does not understand what he is reading, but he also needs to see the subtext, the semantic meaning of each word individually and the whole phrase ...

The development of memory, attention, perception, acceleration of mental operations. Half of the time for learning fast and high-quality reading needs to be spent precisely on the formation of an intellectual base, and then already start working with text. The point is not to teach the child speed reading, but to speed up mental operations, the very cognitive skills that are cognitive. It is thanks to them that the baby develops in reading, in writing, in counting and so on. Please note that these skills themselves do not develop. You will find relevant exercises in the articles How to develop a child’s thinking and How to improve a child’s attention.

Formation of interest in reading. To do this, try to read on your favorite topics of the child.Lack of interest is the result of improper learning, which can kill the desire to go to school and learn something new.

The development of fine motor skills and physical fitness. Every parent should know how to develop fine motor skills. This prepares your baby’s hand for writing, forms a beautiful handwriting. There are a lot of exercises for developing fine motor skills in a child. These include all types of creativity, for example, origami, appliqués, quilling, sewing, modeling, puzzles and so on - the main thing is to find what your baby likes and provide him with all the conditions and opportunities.

You may be surprised, but sports sections, dances, camping trips, outdoor games, exercise, walking and so on are also very important for developing reading skills.

What can not be done?

How to teach a child to read quickly? Many parents think that for this they need to be forced to read many pages at a time. But in the end, you run the risk of encountering resistance, which can lead to isolation and exacerbated by the reluctance to learn further. No need to suppress the will of the child!

How much to give to read? The main thing is not to make requirements and standards for children who do it poorly. The child should read as much as he does not cause rejection.

So, you need to read:

  • short words to those who have just learned (3 and 5 letters) and as much as they can,
  • short texts for those who read 30 words, gradually increasing the volume,
  • 1-2 pages for those who read 60-80 words, starting from one page and, if the child is not tired, you can give a second, these children are allowed to read to themselves,
  • 2-8 pages for those who read more than 120 words, starting with two pages and gradually adding their number.

If the school has set 10 pages, but for your child it is a bit much, you can change with it - he reads one page, you next and so on. Thus, you will give him the opportunity to relax, and the process will not cause dislike in him.

Where to start learning speed reading?

Speaking of the classical method of speed reading, we emphasize that the basis in it is a complete rejection of internal pronunciation. This technique is not suitable for younger students. It should begin no earlier than 10-12 years. Up to this age, children better absorb information that is read at the same speed as when speaking.

Parents and educators can still draw for themselves a number of useful principles and techniques that are part of this technique. The children's brain at the age of 5-7 years has all the possibilities for full disclosure and improvement - this is indicated by many teachers of reputable schools: Zaitseva, Montessori and Glenn Doman. All these schools begin to teach children to read at this age (about 6 years), only one world-famous Waldorf school begins the process a little later.

Is the child ready to learn

Before starting the process itself, it is necessary to take into account the psychological and physical readiness of the baby for learning. There are several basic criteria by which you can determine in what way to start, so that training does not subsequently turn your preschooler away from reading for life.

  1. If your child speaks fluently with sentences and logically associates phrases, then it is time. Check if the son or daughter understands what you read.
  2. An important criterion is the ability to distinguish sounds. Speech therapists call this phonemic hearing. For example, mushroom - flu, soup - tooth, mouth - genus. Does the child understand that these words have different meanings?
  3. A big problem on the way to learning can be speech delay or incorrect pronunciation of some sounds: if the child does not pronounce sounds correctly, then the help of a speech therapist is required. Do not expect the problem to be solved by itself. Lead the child to the specialist for classes and attend them regularly, as well as be sure to complete the tasks that the teacher gives you to independently consolidate the training material.Speech delay, stuttering - it is necessary to show the child to a neurologist and psychiatrist. In any case, there is a reason, and it must be recognized.

  1. It is imperative to teach the baby where left and right, top and bottom. This will help him navigate the text: from which side to start reading the word, where is the top line and where is the bottom.

Preparing to read preschool

Today, there is a huge assortment of reading aids on store shelves. Moms and dads, of course, begin this process with the study of letters, for which they buy ABCs in a variety of forms: talking books and posters, cubes, puzzles and much more.

The ABC comes to the aid of the youngest children

The goal of all parents is extremely important, but it should be remembered that you need to learn immediately so that you do not have to retrain later. Often, without even knowing it, adults are taught not by the methods that eventually gives rise to confusion in the child’s head that leads to mistakes.

When to start learning to read

Many parents are so worried that their child will not have time to learn to read before school, that they begin to literally pester the baby at almost 2 years old.

  • At 3-4 years old, it may not be interesting for the baby to sit above the book. And this is normal. Each age has its own tasks.
  • If a child’s friend has been reading and knowing Fet and Tyutchev by heart from acquaintances, this does not mean that you should go. All children are so individual that general recommendations in any case remain only general. Learn to feel your baby.
  • At 5 or 6 years old is another matter. But if the kid does not go to kindergarten or to any classes for a certain reason, then start to teach him yourself. In an unobtrusive way, teach to write in capital letters the basic words “MOTHER”, “DAD”, “HOUSE”, “CAT”, your name. With minimal preparation, the child will much more easily tolerate adaptation in the first grade.

8 basic rules on how to teach a child to read syllables at home

They will help to orientate correctly and understand what is basic and what is secondary. Now in more detail.

  1. Start small: gradually learn letters and sounds as you walk. Draw a letter in the sand with a stick, then a syllable. The same can be done from twigs or pebbles. It will be interesting to learn to read crumbs, guessing familiar letters, and then syllables on signs. Show that letters and words surround us everywhere.
  2. A little later, the educational process can be transferred to the house. Set up a chair and desk for writing and reading. Make sure that there is proper lighting. Encourage the child to put the notebook, pen or pencil back in place. Books need a small shelf. Teach your baby to clean up and be organized. All this must be done in a relaxed manner. First, crumbs will be enough and 10 minutes a day.
  3. Read with pleasure yourself. Develop a reading culture in your family. Discuss what you read with your child. Ask the smaller one: who is drawn in the picture? Who is it about in a fairy tale? When the baby grows up, you can ask more complex questions: why did the hero of the fairy tale do just that? And how would you do in his place?
  4. It would be more correct to start from simple words to more complex ones. Start with the words where the syllables are repeated: ma - ma, pa - pa, ba-ba, dya - dya. Then move on to the difficult ones: cat, de - re - in, baby, veter.
  5. Get some sensible textbooks: a primer (author N. S. Zhukova), a favorite alphabet (Irina Solnyshko), primers, sponsored by N. Betenkova, V. Goretsky, D. Fonin, N. Pavlova, magnetic alphabet, cubes with letters. Draw vowels on the cards and place them throughout the apartment. Gradually, the child will remember them all. Then swap them. Then do the same with the consonants.
  6. Alphabets and primers require more perseverance, but also gradually teach the child not only letters, but also syllables.Associative thinking will help you learn the alphabet faster: the letter “A” is an album, “B” is a squirrel, “C” is a bicycle, and bright pictures will help you remember more quickly.
  7. Repeat what you’ve already learned. If you started to study, then do it systematically. Otherwise, there will be no result. When in line or on the road, read a small book with your child. Time will pass faster, and even with benefit.
  8. Most importantly, do not force, do not be nervous, and do not use violence. Childhood is a golden time, do not forget about it. Not at all optional: if you want and want, then your child wants the same.

The game video Luntik teaches letters and helps to prepare for school. Together with him, having completed several interesting and diverse lessons, the child will learn letters and the alphabetical order.

Introduction

If earlier a child was taught to read at school, then the current rules have become more stringent: a first grader should already be able to read! Most schools will not even accept a child in the 1st grade if they are "not literate." Moreover, not in every kindergarten children are taught letters, it all depends on the program, according to which the preschool institution works.

So very often parents have to teach their children to read on their own. And then a lot of questions arise: by what method to teach reading (there are so many of them), at what age should I start reading, and so on and so on ...

Suitable age for reading

There is no rush in this matter. Of course, you can understand parents who are proud of a 2-year-old genius who freely reads Pushkin. But abilities are strictly individual. No need to "chase" the son or daughter of friends, carefully watch your baby to understand that the child is ready to learn to read.

How to determine this? Here are the main signs by which you can understand that it is time to learn to read:

  • the child speaks in whole sentences and can make a full-fledged, coherent story about an event, retell the contents of the film or book,
  • the child has a phonemic hearing, that is, he hears and recognizes sounds correctly. How to check phonemic hearing? For example, invite the child to repeat the syllables after you (ka-ga, za-sa, ta-da, etc.), then complicate the task and add one or two syllables (sa-za-sa, zha-za-zha, tsa- cha-tsa ...). Make sure your child makes sounds accurately. Another exercise is to pick up pictures with the image of objects in the names of which only one sound is distinguished (hat-foot, bowl of a bear, lacquer-cancer, etc.), the child must correctly pronounce the names of objects in the pictures,
  • the baby does not need the help of a speech therapist, he correctly pronounces all the sounds,
  • the child is oriented in space, does not confuse the words “left” and “right”, “bottom” and “top”, etc.

If the child copes with all the tasks and his level of development meets the above criteria, you can safely start classes. The "average" child is able to learn to read at the age of five.

1. Practice of passages

The bottom line is: we add 30 words to the actual reading speed. That is, if a child reads 30 words, we add 30 more to him, as a result he will work out 60. For those who can overcome 60 words in a minute, we give a text of 90 words and so on. The passage must be read three times in a row. For the first time, the baby will most likely be insecure and slow, in one minute he will not be able to cope with the whole number of words: he will either read half or more, but not completely. The task is to learn how to overcome this passage to the end in exactly 1 minute. That is, every day you need to read the selected text three times until then, until it works out in one minute. The passage of the passage must go out loud, because our task is to reach 180 words per minute.

2. Reading by the Wave

This exercise is suitable for children who, without straining, read at least 50-60 words per minute or more.First, let the child read the text in the usual position, then turn the book 90 degrees - let him read the passage so, then upside down and, finally, 180 degrees in relation to it. You need to start with a few sentences and bring to the end of the whole page. There is such an interesting indicator - if you give your child to read the text upside down, then you can find out his real speed.

What reading teaching methodology to choose?

We list the main modern techniques:

  • reading in whole words - Glen Doman’s technique based on visual memory,
  • syllable reading - N. Zaitsev’s technique: the child learns and reads syllables,
  • sound-letter method: the child is taught to hear sounds in a word, and then correlate them with letters,
  • reading by adding letters is what most of us have learned, first we learn the names of letters, and then we put them together.

Remember: “um” and “a” - will be “ma”?

Common Parent Mistakes

  • Pronouncing letters, not sounds. It is a mistake to name the alphabetical variants of letters: PE, ER, KA. For proper training, their short pronunciation is required: P, P, K. An improper beginning will lead to the fact that later in the compounding the child will have a problem in the formation of syllables. So, for example, he will not be able to identify the word: PEAPEA. Thus, the crumb cannot see the miracle of reading and understanding, which means that the process itself will become absolutely uninteresting for him.
  • The erroneous teaching of combining letters into syllables and reading words. The following approach will be incorrect:
    • we say: P and A will be PA,
    • spelling: B, A, B, A,
    • analysis of the word only with a look and its reproduction without regard to the text.

    Learning to read correctly

You should teach your child to play the first sound before the second is pronounced - for example, MMMO-PPRE, LLLUUUK, VVVO-DDDA. Having trained a child in this way, you will see positive changes in learning much faster.

The reading skill is closely related to the correct pronunciation of sounds.

Very often violations of reading and writing take their basis in the pronunciation base of the child. The kid does not pronounce sounds correctly, which further affects reading. We advise you to start visiting a speech therapist starting at the age of 5 years and not to wait until speech is established independently.

    First class

The famous professor I.P. Fedorenko developed his own method of teaching reading, the main principle of which is that it is important not how much time you spend on a book, but how often and regularly you study.

Many parents, unwillingly, put the wheels in the wheel of the child’s desire to learn to read. In many families, the situation is the same: “Sit down at the table, here’s a book for you, read the first tale and until you finish, don’t leave the table.” The reading speed of a kid studying in first grade is very slow and therefore reads one short story he needs at least an hour. During this time, he is very tired of mental hard work. Parents use this approach to kill the child’s desire to read. A more gentle and effective way to study the same text is to do portion work on it, for 5-10 minutes. Then these attempts are repeated two more times during the day.

Children who are forced to read usually lose interest in literature completely.

When a child sits down at a book without pleasure, it is important to apply a gentle reading mode in this case. With this method, between reading one or two lines, the baby gets a short break.

For comparison, you can imagine viewing a slide from a filmstrip. In the first frame, the child reads 2 lines, then studies the picture and rests. Then we switch to the next slide and repeat the work.

Extensive pedagogical experience has allowed teachers to apply various effective methods for teaching reading, which can be used at home. Below are examples of some of them.

    Speed reading syllable table

This set contains a list of syllables that are repeated many times in one reading session. This way of practicing syllables trains the articulation apparatus. First, children read one line of the table slowly (in chorus), then at a slightly faster pace, and the last time as a tongue twister. During one lesson, one to three lines are worked out.

Using syllabic tablets helps the child more quickly remember the combinations of sounds

By studying such syllable tables, children begin to understand what principle they are built on, it is easier for them to navigate and find the desired syllable. Over time, children understand how to quickly find a syllable at the intersection of vertical and horizontal lines. The combination of vowels and consonants becomes clear to them from the point of view of the sound-letter system, in the future it becomes easier to perceive words as a whole.

Open syllables need to be read both horizontally and vertically (more in the article: how to quickly teach a child to read syllables together?). The principle of reading in a table is twofold. The horizontal strings display the same consonant sound with different vowel variations. A consonant is read for a long time with a smooth transition into a vowel sound. In vertical lines, the vowel remains the same, and the consonants change.

    Choral pronunciation of the text

They train the articulation apparatus at the beginning of the lesson, and remove excessive fatigue in the middle. On the sheet, which is issued to each student, a number of tongue twisters are offered. First graders can choose to practice a tongue twister they like or related to the topic of the lesson. Whispering tongue twisters is also a great workout for the articulation apparatus.

Performing articulation exercises improves speech clarity and helps speed reading

    Comprehensive reading program

    • repeated repetition of what is written,
    • reading in the fast rhythm of tongue twisters,
    • Continuing reading unfamiliar text with expression.

The joint implementation of all points of the program, the pronunciation of a not very loud voice. Everyone has their own pace. The scheme is as follows:

The read and informed content of the first part of the tale / story continues with choral reading in an undertone of the next part. The task lasts 1 minute, after which each student makes a mark to which place he has read. Then the task is repeated with the same passage, a new word is also marked and the results are compared. In most cases, the second time shows that the number of words read has become greater. Increasing this number creates a positive attitude in children and they want to achieve new successes. We advise you to change the pace of reading and read as a tongue twister what the articulation apparatus will develop.

The third part of the exercise is as follows: a familiar text is read at a slow pace with expression. When children reach an unfamiliar part, the pace of reading increases. You will need to read one or two lines. Over time, the number of rows needs to be increased. You will notice that after a few weeks of systematic training, the child will show obvious progress.

In training, the sequence and ease of exercise for the child is very important.

    Exercise options

    1. Assignment "Serif Throw". When doing the exercise, students' palms are on their knees. It begins with the teacher’s words: “Throw!” Having heard this command, the children begin to read the text from the book. Then the teacher says: “Serif!” This is the time to relax. Children close their eyes, but their hands remain on their knees all the time. Having heard the “Throw” command again, students look for the line on which they stopped and continue reading. The duration of the exercise is about 5 minutes. Thanks to this training, children learn visual orientation in the text.
    2. Task "Tug". The goal of this exercise is to control the ability to change the pace of reading. First graders read the text with the teacher. The teacher selects a pace convenient for students, and students should try to keep up. Then the teacher goes into reading "to himself", which is also repeated by the children. After a short period of time, the teacher starts reading aloud again, and the children, with the right pace, should read the same thing with him. You can increase the level of reading by doing this exercise in pairs. A better reading student reads "to himself" and simultaneously moves his finger along the lines. The neighbor reads aloud, focusing on the finger of a partner. The task of the second student is to keep up with the reading of a stronger partner, which should in the long run increase the speed of reading.
    3. Find a soul mate. The task of students will be to search the table in the second half of the word:
Wah - kare - hasun is king
    Com - Gonbooks - yearsry - tukh
    Red - Passbi - pape - tse

Program for children over 8 years old

    1. Search for words in the text. In the allotted time, students must find words that begin with a specific letter. A more difficult option when learning the technique of high-speed reading is to search for a specific line in the text. This activity helps to improve visual vertical search. The teacher begins to read the line, and the children must find it in the text and read the continuation.
    2. Insert missing letters. Some letters are missing in the proposed text. How much? Depends on the level of readiness of children. Instead of letters, there may be periods or spaces. This exercise helps to speed up reading, as well as help combine letters into words. The child compares the initial and final letters, analyzes them and makes up the whole word. Children learn to read the text a little ahead in order to correctly choose the right word, and this skill is usually formed already in well-read children. A simpler version of the exercise for children over 8 years of age is a text with missing endings. For example: Veche ... attack ... in the city .... We moved ... along the paths ... between the garage ... and notice ... small ... kitten ... etc.
    3. The game of Hide and Seek. The teacher begins to randomly read a line from the text. Schoolchildren should quickly orient themselves, find this place and continue reading together.
    4. Exercise "Word with a mistake." Reading, the teacher makes a mistake in the word. Children are always interested in correcting inaccuracies, because so their authority increases, as well as self-confidence.
    5. Independent read speed measurements. Children on average should read about 120 words per minute or more. Achieving this goal will be easier and more interesting if they begin to independently measure their reading speed once a week. The child himself counts the number of words read and puts the results on a tablet. This task is relevant in grades 3-4 and allows you to improve the reading technique. You can find other examples of exercises and video exercises for speed reading on the Internet.

    We stimulate the results

Evaluation of positive dynamics is very important. The child will receive a good incentive for further work if he sees that he has already achieved some successes. Above the workplace, you can hang a table or graph that would reflect the progress in learning speed reading and improving the reading technique itself.

It is especially important to pull the reading to the end of the third grade. At this age, the child should read a minimum of 120 words per minute. Speed reading for children is a great option to teach a child to accelerate the pace of reading and at the same time understand what they read by reading "to oneself."

    3. Reading tables of sounds, syllables, words

This is a very effective exercise for those who read 30-60 words. It helps to go from word-by-word reading to word-by-word, accelerate the recognition of letters and syllables. Tables need to be read correctly: only with columns, for a while (30 seconds - one table), the results should be written down (in order to track the dynamics), you need to start with one and try to read three at a time. Make sure that the child pronounces the floor of the column in one breath - this will help to work out intonation in the future. You can write the tables yourself or find them in S. G. Zotov’s book “Increasing Reading Speed”.

    4. Reading with a retelling - 1-2 pages, 4-8 pages

Such an exercise must be performed every day. If the child reads very poorly, then you can do it yourself, and let the baby retell. First, try to learn to retell in paragraphs, to find its essence. Then skip to the full text. At the same time, it is not necessary to force the child to speak in detail from third parties - let him tell in general what events were, who participated and how it ended.

    5. Text reasoning - 12 sentences on a given topic

Usually this exercise is carried out with children 3-4 classes. They are given a certain thought, problem, some statement or question, and the child should openly speculate on a given topic. Make sure that his proposals are logical, follow each other in a single connection, and there should be at least 12. Therefore, be sure to give time to think - about 5-10 minutes. In fact, this is psychological preparation for an oral exam in the future.

There are a lot of exercises on how to teach a child to read quickly. Look for those that the child will like, try and the result will not be long in coming.

    Learn to read by playing

There is another game technique for teaching reading.

Learn vowels with your child first. There are only 10 of them in Cyrillic, so the process will be short-lived. Make the letters “talking”: prepare 10 identical circles of paper with a diameter of 10 centimeters and write one of the vowels on each red felt-tip pen. Hang the circles around the apartment and learn the vowels with the child, ask him to make a sound when you pass by the circle. Swap circles until the child remembers each letter.

Ask your child to find familiar letters in other places: in a book, on a TV or computer screen, on billboards and store signs, and so on. Turn your search for familiar letters into a fun game.

Thus, we have learned the vowels, go to the consonants. It is better to start one letter and memorize short words. Let's start with the main word - “mother”. The first consonant to learn the letter "m". Think about what the letter looks like, so that the child remembers it better (half a bow, a swing, etc.). You can make the same circle for the letter and make small words from the letter “m” and vowels (we, am, mu, etc.). Read it yourself and ask the child to read. The more you read, the better the material will be absorbed.

Gradually introduce new consonants when they become 2 or 3, you can make more complex words (catfish, juice, braid, com, etc.). At this stage, it is worth buying a magnetic alphabet. You will be surprised how quickly the child will memorize new letters.

Another common problem is the child’s unwillingness to learn to read. In no case can it be forced; such a teaching does not turn into pleasure, but into torment. Try to find some incentives for the child, read aloud to the child more, stopping at the most interesting place, ask to read some signs or inscriptions, “forgetting” that he cannot read, etc.

The third problem is the disorganization of the parents themselves. If you still decide to start classes with your child, you can not stop halfway. Irregular classes will not work, so in this case it is better not to start them.

    Daily workouts

We will determine what exercises can be included in daily training with a child in order to teach him how to read quickly and efficiently:

    1. Tasks for the development of memory, attention, logic, anticipation (required).
    2. Work with an excerpt of 60-80, 120-180 words (required, can be combined with school homework).
    3. Reading upside down, sideways (optional).
    4. Reading three tables 1-2 times a day (optional).
    5. Retelling of small texts (required, can be combined with school homework).
    6. The development of fine motor skills (required).

Keep in mind that you cannot force your child to exercise if he is tired or sick. You will not get the result, since all the forces of his body will go to recovery.

If your schedule allows, then you can do two workouts a day: morning and evening. And remember: one lesson is an operating time, the second is fastening. Even if you work with the child once a day, the next should be consolidation of the material “yesterday”. Do not spend more than 30 minutes in the morning, and 10-15 minutes in the evening. In the first lesson, try to do everything that is listed in the list above. Secondly, let the child read the passage only once and only one table, and if there is time, you can do retelling or complete a couple of tasks to develop memory, attention or motor skills.

Be sure to try this technique with your child and share the results in the comments to the article.

    7 rules for effective learning

1 rule of an effective child reading teaching methodology: Buy an alphabet for a child without pictures.

Always choose the alphabet with capital letters, preferably without pictures. So it will be easier for the child to focus on letters, rather than colorful drawings. It is possible to teach a child to read from the age of 2-3 years, but it is worth remembering that at such an early age it is difficult for children to concentrate - to keep their attention on the same subject for a long time.

Rule 2 of an effective teaching technique for reading a child: First, learn the main letters.

Start learning letters with vowels: A, E, E, E, I, O, U, S, E, Y, Y. Vowels are easier for children. They can be easily learned by singing. So that the child can learn vowels quickly and effortlessly, organize a joint lesson in family singing: sing along as you can, Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ..., I-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-without-or-and-and-and-and-and-and-by-and-and-and-and-by-and-or-and-and-and-and-and-by-and-or-as-and-or-or-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-and-as-or-or-and-and-or-and-or-or-or-and-or-or-or-and-or-or-or-or-and-or-or-or-or-or-or-and-or.. ... Such a “reading lesson” will be very funny, and most importantly, memorable for you and your baby.

Once you learn the basic vowels, you can move on to the consonants. A few learned vowels and a couple of consonants are already enough for syllables.

Rule 3 of an effective teaching technique for reading a child: Quickly learn letters, and even faster - go to syllables.

Do not pull with syllables! It is easiest to teach a child to read in syllables, not in letters.

Start learning syllables from the letters you already know as soon as possible: knowing a few vowels and a couple of consonants is already good for composing the simplest words, like “mom”, “dad”, but in any case, the hardest part is to start. Therefore, you need to start with the simple, so that later you go to the complex. After learning to read syllables, go on to compiling complete words.

Rule 4 of an effective methodology for teaching a child to read: When you name your child’s letter, say its pronunciation (“M”), not its name (“Em”).

When naming a letter, sound the sound. When teaching your baby the letters should be pronounced sounds, not the name of the letters. For example, say the letter “C”, not “Es” or “Ce.” Do not complicate the child’s task of learning to read, save him from knowledge unnecessary at this stage: everything ingenious is simple! Less details, more - to the point.

Rule 5 of an effective teaching technique for reading a child: Engage with your child often, but little by little.

It is difficult for children under six to keep their attention in the same lesson. Do not overload the child, doing it for a long time. It is better to deal with the child twice a day for 15 minutes than once, but for half an hour.

Learning to read Russian words is the same as learning to read in a foreign language: too much new information is difficult for the child’s brain to perceive. Therefore, it is advisable to break it into many small pieces, each time “swallowing” one at a time, than trying to squeeze a whole “pie” of incomprehensible information into the baby’s head at a time.

Fifteen minutes worked out in a playful way, preferably with motivation for prizes or in a funny, laid-back form, and then rest, switching the child to other activities.

Rule 6 of an effective methodology for teaching a child to read: Reading lessons involve drawing lessons.

Draw letters! The best way to remember a letter is to draw it, or better yet, write it. Thus, you will immediately teach your child to read, while preparing your hand for writing.

In general, it’s great if the child’s mother and / or father knows at least a little psychology and, in particular, knows what kind of psychotype his child belongs to - visual, auditory or sensitive / tactile.

Visual people perceive and remember information best of all if their eyes and organs of vision are maximally involved, i.e. for a visual child, the best way to teach reading is to look at the letters in the children's alphabet and to contemplate the letters written by hand in a notebook or on a sheet of colored paper.

An audio child learns best by listening to information. Those. such a child will best remember the letter if you pronounce it clearly aloud to him, and if he himself repeats its pronunciation several times aloud and, preferably, will be able to associate this sound with its spelling, image - the letter in the letter.

Rule 7 of an effective teaching technique for reading a child: We consolidate the theory in practice, in ordinary life

Why are letters needed? The child needs to clearly, simply and clearly, explain why this mom and dad make him learn all these letters. What is the meaning of this alphabet?

On the bus or while walking around the city, show your child various signs and building names. The child must realize that the study of letters opens up new interesting opportunities for him. Let the child look for familiar letters in the inscriptions on the goods and at the stops, in the car numbers, and inform you of his finds!

Learning to read then becomes interesting for the child when he realizes the meaning of this process. Tell the child that having mastered the knowledge of the world of letters, he will be able to read interesting children's tales himself, and not wait for his mother to free herself from cooking in the kitchen.

Reading for a child can be fun. Just to show the love of reading is, first of all, the task of parents. And praise the baby, even for small victories, because each learned letter is a real triumph for him! Do not forget to notice and note even the small achievements of your child in the process of learning to read, build your own strategy, an effective methodology of teaching your child to read, do not save time communicating with your child, and then a rich harvest of upbringing will not take long.

    Quick Reading Basics

Modern education systems for children dictate their own rules. If before a first-grader who came to school for the first time, it was enough to look neat and have minimal ideas about the rules of behavior in society, but now the requirements for kids are tightened.

A first grader should not only be able to count to at least ten, but also have good reading skills. Despite this, in the elementary grades there are frequent cases when the technique of reading children leaves much to be desired. The most common problems are reading speed. How to teach a child to read quickly? How to teach a child to read quickly?

    Differences children

Why is one child reading slowly, and the reading technique of another is beyond praise? There may be several reasons for slow reading:

    • insufficient development of memory and attention,
    • a small vocabulary of a child,
    • reduced volume of the operative field of vision (cases when the baby, for some reason, cannot gaze cover the whole word),
    • making the eyes return movements (when the child reads the same word twice),
    • insufficient development of the articulation apparatus,
    • the need to read too complex texts that are not appropriate for the age of the child.

“How to help your child learn to read?” (Recommendations for parents)

Recently, the reluctance of children to read has become a very urgent problem. The reason for this, most likely, is passivity in instilling reading skills. Against the background of the information space, television, computer games. We are paying less attention to reading literature. Hence, problems arise at school: the low technique of reading texts, the difficulty of understanding the conditions of problems in mathematics, errors in the performance of written assignments.

There are children who read fluently and sensibly already at the age of five; for others in the sixth grade, a mother reads a paragraph on history. One learns to read himself, three clever teachers fight over the other, but he still cannot really learn to read throughout his school years, and his rejection of the printed text extends to him until adulthood.

The ability to read does not depend entirely on the intelligence of the child. A number of factors and reasons for reading difficulties can have many effects on reading instruction. For example, the child’s insecurity, impaired interaction of certain brain functions, impaired vision or hearing, teachers' inattention to the psychological characteristics of the child, poor family education, etc.

Our task is to diagnose the cause and eliminate it., then the process of learning to read will be successful, and the book will become an integral part of the child’s life.

Also, success and failure in learning to read may depend on the type of temperament of the child, that is, on the speed and depth of reaction. As a result of a slow child (phlegmatic), teachers are often undeservedly credited to college students. But choleric material will learn faster (which is the most important thing at school), but knowledge will quickly disappear, his memory is short, and with a phlegmatic person they will remain for life. Therefore, all the psychological characteristics of the child must be taken into account and appropriate methods of teaching reading to be selected.

How can I help my child learn to read?

    • It is necessary to select interesting texts so that their reading does not tire the child, stimulates the desire to read the text to the end.
    • Allow at least half an hour a day daily to read aloud, try to teach your child what to read every day.
    • Do not forget that the leading type of activity of the child is a game, therefore, when playing, create game situations.

For example, you and your child are training in reading the text for a while ("Who will read faster?)." For younger schoolchildren, games using cards with words printed on them and cards with objects depicting them will be interesting (“Read and find the appropriate picture”). Hold a contest for the best reader (especially good if the family has two children). This is just a small list of games that you can play with your children.

When to start learning to read?

Never too early and never too late. What matters here is not age, but the child’s willingness to learn to read, and the willingness to do it correctly. The age for learning to read is individual for each child. Preparing for learning to read should be from birth: to train hearing, attention, memory, and to develop speech. As the child’s speech and thinking develops, the journey through the vast world of books will continue. Children are very curious people, they want to know everything about everything, tormenting with the endless question “why?”.

Choose books in accordance with the age of the child. Until he learns to read fluently, you need to purchase only well-illustrated books, and it is desirable that the illustration matches the text on the same page.

Read to your child every day. But this does not mean that you should chase after him with a book. On the contrary, in every possible way provoke him to ask you to read.

    Reading instruction

Basic rules for teaching a child to read:

    • reading instruction should go through the development of auditory and visual perception, the development of attention, memory, thinking, through the development of speech,
    • for each child, the teaching method should be individual (it is unacceptable to teach everyone and everyone according to the tables and cubes of Zaitsev, or according to the Zhukov primer),
    • everyone has their own learning pace and it must correspond to the temperament, age and level of intellectual development at the moment,
    • reading instruction must be in a playful way,
    • reading results are compared with the starting point of training, minor successes are encouraged.

Set your child to the fact that he must learn to read. And what he learns to read is not because you want it, and not because the neighbor Petka is already reading. Your child must learn that it is necessary and interesting for him. The acquired skill must be constantly developed.

    Reading technique development

So, the moment comes, and the child begins to read. You can only build versions of how in a child’s head letters are combined into syllables, syllables into words, words into sentences, and sentences into text that still needs to be understood. Each child goes to this moment in his own way, incomprehensible to us.

But in order to read fluently and quickly, you must, of course, train your reading technique. Very successfully you can use the method of "back reading". Play a television announcer with your child. The situation is this: your child is a television announcer, and in a few minutes he will read the latest news release. He sits down at the table (it would be nice if there was an impromptu television screen on the table) and picks up the newspaper.

The signal sounds: “Live!” - and the “announcer” is set to work. He should read slowly, clearly pronouncing the words. He can read slowly, but what the genre of working as an announcer does not provide for is to stammer, stutter, and shut up for a long time. And in this difficult matter, you will be helped by our announcer - the “shoulder”.

You stand behind the speaker sitting at the table and over his shoulder follow the reading process. You need to be alert. Only the announcer hesitated, had not time to make a mistake yet - you are right there. With a loud voice, you are darning a gap in the news - until the announcer has come to his senses and began to read the text further without stumbling.

Newspaper text is difficult to read. Does your child want to read about animals? Excellent. Then he will be the host of the television show "In the world of animals." Invite your child to switch roles. Now his role is to work as a shoulder. Well, you too can be a danger to the ether, for example, by coughing attacks, which you suppress, of course, but you cannot read at these moments. It is then that the vigilant shoulder strap helps you out with your voice.

There are many more methods of training reading children. The main thing is that this activity is not boring and is imposed on the child. Think up game situations, play literary episodes by roles, conduct theatrical performances, involve other family members in reading trainings. How your child will read is up to you.

How to instill in your child a love of reading?

The question of how to instill a child with a love of reading worries many parents. There is no definite answer, although there are a number of general rules and recommendations.

The most faithful upbringing is to behave with the child as you require of him. And introducing a child to reading begins with introducing the parents to reading. How often do you read? What do you like to read? How often does your child see you reading? How often do you talk about books at home? How often do you buy books?

Pick up your favorite old book, tell the story with interest and offer to read together or just read the child aloud. If you start reading with enthusiasm, then the process of joining the book will become pleasant and interesting for both of you.Tell him about your favorite books, about books that you read as a child.

During cleaning, recommend to your child some small book, telling about its features. The child must definitely arouse interest in the book, so that there is a desire to take it and read it. To do this, you first need to know what he is interested in: music, technology, space, animals. As parents, you probably know what areas of interest your child has, so a book will not be very difficult for you to pick up.

But the approach to choosing the book that you recommend should be careful. It is very important that the book does not scare away its complexity. Pay attention to the font size, the presence of images, the style of presentation. Let this book be not large, but with a large font and colorfully decorated. It is very good if the book will be the first in a series so that it can be further reinforced by interest in its continuation.

And let the trip to the bookstore and the purchase become a holiday for the child! Specify in advance how many books you buy, and what they will be about.

The child should feel the joy of acquiring new books and pride in himself, because he deserves this holiday.

Try to write books yourself. For example, you can compile a collection of snakes, friendships, animals, etc. Illustrations can be cut from old magazines or drawn independently. Even more interesting if you make homemade books with your child. Make a book about your son or daughter, children like to listen to stories about themselves.

Game moments to attract the child to read:

    • After the child reads the book, spend a small quiz, a prize is put for all the correct answers - a new book that the child will choose himself.
    • Some children are very fond of reading diaries in which they make notes, comments, and even illustrations for chapters of the book.
    • It is very interesting to arrange “loud readings”, breaking the text into roles or paragraphs.
    • You can start reading a book with your child, then stop at the most interesting place and offer to read it yourself.
    • You can also read the book to the middle, to the climax, and then suggest coming up with a sequel.
    • If a child loves comics, you can select several pictures from a book and suggest writing a story based on them. And then compare how the author did it.
    • If you see that the child is tired, start playing books. After reading a poem about “There is a goby swinging,” ask the child to show how he sways. How did Tanya cry? And how did Karabas-Barabas get angry? Showed - sit next to us, we will read further.
    • It is difficult for a child, it is almost impossible to even read a small text smoothly, observing intonation. Noah read several times the same thing he was bored. Come up with some kind of motive so that he wants to practice: “Let's read to dad in the evening”, “Let's play at school. You will be a teacher and teach me how to read. ” And praise him, praise him!

Do not forget that the process of engaging in reading should be continuous, systematic and non-violent. Only then will reading become a habit.

The role of home library and family readings

The selection of books for the home library is dictated, of course, by the interests of the family. As a rule, any library can be divided into several main parts: fiction, non-fiction, special literature related to the professional activities of the family, and children's literature.

Also at home, some reference fund is needed. The minimum set of books of this kind is an encyclopedic dictionary, an explanatory dictionary of the Russian language, a dictionary of foreign words, an atlas of the world. For the home library, it is also worth choosing books that you want to leave to your children over time, and which do not lose their artistic value.

If you want your children to easily navigate the large home library. Enter the labeling on the shelves.Together with your child, you can make special dividers that indicate the sections of the fund of your library. For example, on the shelf of your child you can make such sections: fairy tales, adventures, science fiction, poems, stories about animals, etc. Very soon you will notice that the books are neatly placed in the right place.

In addition, becoming interested in one book, the child will see other books on this topic - this is also the important role of the home library and thematic arrangement of books.

Whether the child will have a steady interest in reading, by and large, depends on the parents: on whether the family is reading, is reading one of the ways to spend family leisure time, are there traditions of family reading.

As a rule, family reading refers to general or aloud reading by adults for children. The process of reading aloud contains a moment of joint action with parents that is very important for the development and education of the child.

Family reading is an important part of a home lifestyle if it is turned into a ritual. For example, reading aloud when everyone has already gathered after a working day, after dinner, or before bedtime. It is important not to turn reading into an instrument of encouragement or punishment. Do not say: “If you remove the toys, I read them.” It’s better to say this: “The faster you remove the toys, the more we will have time to read.”

The ritual of family reading should not depend on the behavior of the child or the mood of adults during the day, otherwise interest in reading will disappear, as the process will be associated with unpleasant emotions. If reading takes place during the day, it is very important that this is not in a fuss, simultaneously with household chores, but as a special lesson. At this time, nothing should distract the child: television, music, phone calls, adult walking around the room will interfere with him.

After reading short tales and short stories, you can move on to large books, stretching the pleasure for several days.
It is very important not to stop reading aloud when the children have already learned to read themselves.

    • At first, independent reading at first is a difficult job for a child and for a long time he will not be able to enjoy the plot of the book simply because all his attention is focused on the correct reading of words.
    • Secondly, - and this is the main thing - family reading is the most important moment of communication between children and parents, because it involves sitting next to each other (and for the development of children, tactile sensations are just as important as others), and empathy, and discussion.

After reading, invite the child to think about what will happen in the book. The next day before reading, ask to remind you of what happened before and what kind of development of actions he imagines. This helps the child to better understand the text, develops his speech and imagination.

If you have developed a need for reading in your child, he will look forward to being respected and will enjoy communicating with adults.

In order to grow a true book lover, parents need to follow some rules:

    • Parents are the first interlocutors and the first teachers of the child.
    • It’s a good family tradition to read to children before bedtime, or come up with your own ritual about communicating with a book. Teach your child to handle the book carefully.
    • Try to show your child the benefits of reading: the ability to get good grades in literature, have a fun time, not getting up from the couch, etc.
    • Arouse interest in literature by the power of your own example.
    • You should not force your child to read. Create the conditions for him to want this. Find the reason for the reluctance to read and eliminate it.
    • Do not compare his reading achievements with those of other children.
    • In order for a child to love reading, he must firmly recognize that reading is not a punishment, but an encouragement. If you ever say, “You read poorly. You won’t go for a walk, you won’t watch TV, etc.p. until you begin to read well, ”you will convince your child that reading is punished. But if he sees that all family members often and with pleasure read, then he will understand that reading himself is interesting.
    • Remember that your child is still at the very beginning of the journey to the wonderful book world and it is very important not to miss the time, which is so beneficial for becoming a READER.

Speech therapist and elementary school teacher Anastasia Speranskaya - on how to teach a child to read quickly and correctly

How to teach a child to read in syllables is one of the main questions that worries parents of preschool children. “Letidor” asked the speech therapist to write about the most effective and fastest method that would suit everyone.

In the system of preschool education, there are two main systems that teachers use for literacy. The first technique belongs to Nikolai Zaitsev, the second to Glenn Doman. In this article I want to share successful solutions from both methods and best practices from my own practice that parents can use at home.

    Learn vowels

You need to start with the simplest thing - teaching vowels. Teach them gradually, one letter a week.

Show the child a card with the letter and say: "This is the letter" a "." Connect associations, play with intonations. “Ahhh,” - so the mother cradles the baby, “Ahhh!” - so the baby cries. “This is the letter“ y. ” “Oooo,” the plane takes off.

    Start with simple syllables.

Wait until the baby remembers one or two consonants, and you can start reading the first syllables.

Show your baby “ma” and voice “ma”. No need to pronounce the extra words "this" or "here" so as not to confuse him. Learn the combinations of "m" with all the vowels ("ma", "me", "mu", "e" and so on). Once you have mastered all the options with the letter "m", move on.

Another common mistake that parents make in the early stages is to break the syllable into separate letters. For example, they see the syllable "pa" and voiced: "These are the letters" p "and" a ", together they read" p-a "." This is a gross mistake, which leads to the fact that the child begins to read letter by letter.

    Do not ignore primers

Primer is a book that is methodically verified and compiled by experienced teachers and speech therapists. Do not ignore the primers! Information in them is submitted according to the principle “from simple to complex”. It is from the ABC book that the first texts for reading should be taken.

The main condition in literacy is the patience of the parent. Do not worry. Even if the school is just around the corner, there is still time. Exercise with your baby regularly for 10-15 minutes every day, and the result will not be long in coming.

    What else is worth knowing?

Fast and correct reading is the key to successful schooling. A child who reads slowly will not be able to prepare well for the lesson, which means that sooner or later he will begin to lag behind in mastering the school curriculum in all subjects.

Parents of children who have already mastered the elementary reading technique are often interested in how to teach their children to read quickly and well. Meanwhile, learning how to quickly read information from a piece of paper is much more difficult than just folding letters into words and sentences. During reading, auditory and visual analyzers, and memory, and imagination, and thinking, and much more are involved. In addition, the speed of reading should be comparable to the speed of speech.

In this article, we will tell you why some children read in slow motion, as well as how you can teach your child to read quickly and correctly.

Causes of Slow Reading in Children

The main reasons that entail a slow reading in a child may be as follows:

    • poor vocabulary,
    • banal carelessness
    • bad memory
    • weak articulation apparatus
    • insufficient volume of the operational field of view. In this case, the child does not look at the whole word, but only the first 2-3 letters,
    • the habit of rereading each word several times,
    • too complicated literature, not suitable for age.

    Learning algorithm

Teaching your child a connected reading is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. This is a pretty serious matter that requires patience, perseverance and some preparation of the parents themselves. The process of developing reading skills consists of three steps:

    • memorization of letters and their sounds,
    • folding letters into syllables and practical training in reading them,
    • folding syllables into words and practicing continuous reading.

The first step usually does not cause difficulties for the kids, they quickly memorize the letters during the game. The next step, almost the most important and responsible, is not very easy for many children. The arisen difficulties can discourage and significantly slow down the process. Do not give up and continue systematic studies, even if things have seriously slowed down. Cheer up your child to make him feel more confident.

When can I start teaching a child to read?

Before you start learning, make sure that your charming student knows the letters of the alphabet and easily identifies them. To test your skills, give the baby the ABC and ask for the letters. Usually children need 2-3 minutes. This means that it takes 4-6 seconds to recognize one letter. Based on the simplest calculations, we can assume that it will take him 20 to 25 seconds to read a 4-letter word (“dad”, “mom”). Now imagine what it feels like to read at that speed.

    • Teach your child sounds, not letters, this will simplify the process of subsequent learning. For example, not “de”, “te”, “me”, but “D”, “T”, “M”. Vowels should be long “oooh”, “aaa”. Start practice with “A”. It is easiest for children, they quickly remember and determine it. As soon as the student is good at defining her, proceed with the consonants. Then start making syllables “MA”, “YES”, “GA”. As soon as this works out, start building the words: "ba-ba", "ma-ma". After practicing skills with the letter “A”, start practice with the letter “O”, then “U”, “I”.
    • If the kid is familiar with the alphabet, play with it. Show him how to collect the simple words “yes-sha”, “ka-sha”, “liza”, “liza”, “mouth”, “house”, “ko-za”.
    • Go to 3 difficult words.
    • Learning in the game is the most optimal and interesting for the child.

In the learning process, actively use visual aids. Prepared in advance colorful pictures, thematic video materials can become your assistants in this difficult task.

    Conclusion

I hope that after reading the article, the question of how to teach your child to read syllables at home will not cause you confusion. And you will definitely determine for yourself how to organize the learning process for your son or daughter. To make it easier for you to draw up an action plan, here are a few more recommendations:

    • Before you start learning, make sure that the child is really ready for it. Do not force, try to conduct training, especially at the initial stage, in a playful way.
    • Despite many methods, first of all, a child needs happy and loving parents. If you have established contact with the baby, then any method of training will bring results.
    • Start small, gradually move on to the more difficult. If you started training, then do not be lazy and do not stop, only then you can learn to read. Even if everything is going well, do not forget that your favorite student is just a child and sometimes just wants to play or run.

    Good luck and patience!

    Yours Tatyana Kemishis

    Teaching methods

It is quite difficult to teach a baby to read independently, without relying on didactic material (for more details, see: how to teach a child to learn to read quickly and improve speech?). Buy an ABC book in advance, you will need it. Now they are available in a large assortment - there are classic, there are original ones. The most interesting and practically substantiated methods are N. Zhukova and E. Bakhtina.

Zhukova’s method with “running letters” looks simpler to explain, and therefore more understandable to the child. We should not forget that every child is unique, his abilities are individual. What is convenient and understandable to one does not suit the other. If the baby does not feel very confident at the syllable stage, do not rush to move on to folding words, even the simplest ones. Such useless acceleration will increase his insecurity and discourage the desire to learn to read.

Bakhtina’s technique is suitable for very young children who are barely 2 years old. The author assures that children who regularly practice at home according to her methodology can already read well by the age of three. According to the primer Zhukova, children study at school, i.e. at the age of 5-6 years.

We add and read syllables according to the methodology of Elena Bakhtina

The essence of the method is as follows: as soon as the baby has learned fluently (namely fluently!) To recognize letters, begin to teach him how to combine letters, build syllables to pronounce them. After he learns to correctly pronounce and recognize letter combinations, you need to work out their varieties.

We give an example. In the syllable “MA” the letters “M” and “A” met and made good friends. Now they are together and it turns out "MA". Repeat about friendship “M” + “A” = “MA” during the day, consolidate the skill the next day. In the same way, learn other letter combinations. At first, practice open syllables (in vowel) "KA", "GA", "LA". Be sure to fix the pronunciation with a demonstration of cards (clearly).

Use the same cards to teach your child to read. We offer you ready-made cards: consonants - blue, vowels - red. Compose syllables and words for reading from cards.

    Important aspects:

    • At the initial stage, do not use vowels with “y” in the composition “y” = “yu”, “i” = “ya”. Do not use hissing consonants, as they are more difficult to pronounce.
    • Teach your child continuously - not only at home with a primer, but also during a walk. Point to the “student” on the signs, encourage him to find and pronounce familiar combinations, practice with unfamiliar combinations. Then you can include in the training vowels with the "th" in the composition and hissing consonants.

It is possible that this technique will not suit the baby, and he will not learn to read. In this case, try a different teaching method.

Classical technique of the author of the school primer Nadezhda Zhukova

Use the Zhukova primer to teach your child how to add syllables from letters. Start with the letters "M" and "A", because their combination for the baby is dear and close. This letter combination is familiar almost from birth, it underlies the word "mother".

Please note the baby that in the picture in the alphabet one letter runs to another, and then they connect.

Say along with it the extended letter “mmm” and turn it into “mmaaaa”. At the same time, the first sound is gradually reduced and becomes longer than the second. According to the same pattern, pronounce other open letter combinations with “A”, “O”, “U”: “YES”, “KO”, “TU”, etc. Then proceed to the addition of very simple words that are understandable to the student: “PA-PA”, “RU-KA”, “NO-GA”. Focus on articulation: we stretch one sound and shorten the other. If you can make your cards with "running" letters, then you can teach your child to read not only with a book, but also through the game.

    Important aspects:

    • It is very important to encourage the child to analyze the syllables that he learns. Each time ask him what letters he sees here and how many there are. Let him say and repeat again and again.
    • Make sure that while reading the letters he doesn’t “tear apart” or “unload”, so that the sounds do not turn into letters when they are combined: “yes”, not “dea”, “pa”, not “pea” . The child should pronounce exactly the sounds. Remind the baby that the first sound must be pulled and the second “trimmed”.
    • During the lesson, let the child by ear determine the number of letters (sounds) uttered by mom / dad. Ask him to name the first sound and the second. Initially, you can practice combinations of vowels "ao", "ya", "ia".

Once again, recall the personality of the child. One baby will quickly combine letters and sounds, while the other will have difficulty. Do not rush him or pedal the situation. Let the classes be regular. If your child is not given one method, try another. It is important to choose the option that suits him.

How to teach a child to read syllables at home at 7 years old (grade 1)?

The ability to read is a skill that should be instilled in a child, first of all, his parents. You should not expect your son or daughter to go to grade 1, where teachers will be engaged, because, firstly, children really like to learn something new with their parents, and secondly, mom and dad can significantly help prepare for a turning point in the life of a preschooler.

Understanding how to correctly and quickly teach a child at 7 years of age to read, parents can turn preparing a child for grade 1 into an exciting lesson, and learning to read syllables into an interesting game. In fact, it is not difficult, but, of course, such classes require certain time and moral costs, but the results obtained are really worth it.

    By Waldorf School

For a solid mastery of the skill, children must grow up to 10-12 years. This is due to the fact that elementary school students perceive information that is pronounced at the usual rate of speech. To the middle link, the ability to understand the fast flow of phonemes is being improved. The reading technique is accelerated.

By combining and analyzing both opinions, we can say for sure that speed reading with first-graders and preschoolers stubbornly is not worth it. It is better to postpone it to a later period when the child matures. In elementary school, use preparatory exercises to develop memory, attention, and articulation. These activities are useful in increasing the rate at which you learn the text in the future.

Important! For early learning the alphabet and syllables, use the Zaitsev cubes. They can be used from the age of 6 months to get to know the letters in a playful way.

When and how to start teaching a child to read in preparation for grade 1 at 7 years old?

According to child psychologists, the most optimal for teaching a child to read is the age of 4.5-6 years. In practice, many children themselves express a desire to learn from about 5 years of age. There are a number of indicators by which you can judge whether your daughter or son is ready for such activities.

They call the baby a letter, not a sound

For example, Pe, Ne, and so on. This is not true. The names of letters from the alphabet must be pronounced without additional overtones: "K", "M" ...

Memorization of letters with a sound will lead to problems with reading. The child puts the syllables like this: "pea-pea" instead of "pa-pa". Short and clear pronunciation is the main condition for a fast reading pace.

Read texts for a long time

Conduct classes often, spend one 5-7 minutes. It is better to read a short excerpt, a couple of sentences with good speed, than to keep the student at the table for half an hour and force them to study. Short lessons are more effective. Do not forget to take breaks between exercises, about 2-3 hours.

Important! Take into account the mental characteristics of the child: the amount of memory, the period of maximum concentration of attention. If a teenager can focus and engage in 15–20 minutes, this is not tiring, increase the duration of the lesson, but reduce their number per day to one or two.

    From simple to complex

Speed reading training is based on the ability to perceive the whole words without dividing them into syllables. At the initial stage, use short words consisting of two to three sounds. For example, “house”, “cat”. In the future, the baby will not read them, recognize them by letter. He will see this word in the text and immediately pronounce it. This is the meaning of the fast reading technique.

Preparation for the lesson: write the simplest words on a piece of paper, one at a time. Show them one after another. Gradually increase the pace of the change of words. Replace three-letter tokens with words of four to five to seven letters after a solid assimilation of the material passed.

The words ("home", "forest") are replaced by complex ones ("tree", "car"), then phrases and phrases. Make sentences from familiar vocabulary for students. For example, he can read “who” and “house” separately. Offer the phrase: “Who is in the house”, then add “lives” to this. Get an offer.

You can start reading small texts when the student has learned a quick reading of phrases and phrases. The pace of fixing the skill is different for all children. Do not rush if the student hesitated. Sometimes you need to return to simple, already covered material. This will increase interest in classes, reduce emotional stress, and set you up for success.

Important! As the first books, use vibrant literature, with pictures, an interesting plot. A boring curriculum will not work.

    First-Grader Exercises

The first class is the most difficult psychologically, but very interesting period of life. During the first months at school, the baby adapts to the new team, teacher, learns discipline and learns a lot. It is not recommended to start fluent reading classes in the first half of the year. The first grader simply does not have enough strength and emotions for the extra load at home.

If you feel that the child can and wants to become the first in reading technique among classmates, then conduct lessons in the form of a game, without forcing you to sit for a long time reading a book.

According to Professor I.T. Fedorenko is the author of his own method of teaching reading, the effectiveness of classes does not depend on the amount of time spent on the lesson, but on its quality. Organize a clear plan: two to three times a day do simple exercises for 5-6 minutes. If the student is not in the mood, tired, postpone the lesson for a couple of hours, let him rest and tune in to work.

Important! Rest means a walk, active games, lunch or an extra afternoon snack. Do not allow to sit near the TV, computer. Watching cartoons or online games on the Web does not psychologically unload the student.

If you decide to study with a first grader at home, without the help of professionals, use the following exercises:

    Automated syllable reading

Download on the Web for free or create your own syllabus. For example, this:

A first grader can get acquainted with her in the process of studying the alphabet.

A syllabus table is used in each lesson. A first grader reads one to three lines in one session, gradually accelerating the pace. If the training is in a team, first the lines are pronounced in chorus, then individually.

Thanks to the syllable table, the student easily understands the structure of words, learns to read words faster - on the machine. Letter combinations are pronounced vertically and horizontally. In the introductory lesson, it is better to carefully work out one line with the same vowel: GA, YES, etc. Read syllables long, not dividing into sounds.

The use of a syllable table is invaluable in speech therapy classes: the articulatory apparatus is trained, problem sounds are produced. Simultaneously with the improvement of speech, the child acquires spelling skills, neutralizes the tendency to dysorphography.

    Set of tasks

    Includes the following exercises:

    1. repeated reading on speed and time,

Children are invited to text. They read it on their own, quietly. The teacher detects 1 minute. After stopping, children mark with a pencil the place where they left off. Rest 3-5 minutes. You can speak tongue twisters at this time. Do articulation gymnastics.

We take the familiar text in hand, again read for a minute. Compare the first and second result. More often, children read a familiar passage faster, making fewer mistakes. Success creates a positive attitude. We pass to the new material.

    1. getting to know the new text and reading it with an expression,

For lessons it is better to take texts that cannot be read fluently in a minute. Children should have a piece of new material for quick reading training. Read the unfamiliar part of the text in chorus, quickly, but with expression.

Use a set of exercises in each lesson for 1-2 weeks.

    Tug Assignment

Lexical material is read with the parent. An adult chooses a pace so that the child is not hard or too light. Two or three sentences are read in chorus, the parent becomes silent, continuing to read silently.

The kid also does not stop, reads to himself, trying to maintain a given speed. After one or two sentences, the adult begins to pronounce the text out loud. If the student has not slowed down, he will read the same thing with the parent.

This exercise can be done in pairs. Children distribute roles. A strong student plays the role of a tugboat, while a weak student is pulled behind him. For the first lessons on this scheme, use the hint: slide your finger across the text at the time of silent reading. The student who follows the strong will continue reading aloud, focusing on the prompt of the partner and his speed.

    Jump-stop

The exercise resembles a game. Develops attention, visual memory, orientation in the text.

The task is performed as follows. The child is sitting at the table, in front of him is the text. At the command of an adult, reading begins in high-speed rhythm. When the order to stop sounds, the child closes his eyes and rests 10-15 seconds. Then the teacher gives the command to read. First-graders need to quickly find a stopping place in the text and continue reading. This is an easy way to improve attention and visual memory.

Important! No need to help find a stopping place in the book. The reception is based on the principle of complete independence.

    Half

Prepare the didactic material. Write the words of two or three syllables on an A4 sheet, large. For example, “cat”, “spoon”, “girl”. Then cut the sheets so that the words can be folded from two halves. Shuffle the cards.

Suggest in a game form to find and combine together parts of the words for speed. But speed is not the most important thing here.

A correctly conducted lesson develops imagination, memory.

For reference! An interesting method of teaching children to read from the cradle is the Doman-Manichenko card. These are pictures with words. They are shown to the child quickly, 2-3 seconds. Four to ten a day. After 5 days, the baby will call the words that are written on the card. The method is based on photo memory.

And here is another interesting way that is very simple and at the same time effective.

    Play Hidden Words

The game is like reading anagrams. Children find words in a letter box. It looks like this:

Words can be selected on one topic or arbitrarily. Primary school students are better off providing a list of words that need to be found, leaving the task of isolating them on the field.

And another option that you can print and use with your child.

    Widening the field of view

    1. Schulge table.

It is necessary to increase the angle of vision. For second graders, use this table option:

The child looks through the eyes in order: from 1 to 25, for example, only black or only red. Take time, limit it gradually.A search for numbers in a table will increase the pace of speech, because the student will see more words with lateral vision, that is, subconsciously read them in advance.

The student needs to concentrate on the upper numbers, gradually going down. Numbers are spoken aloud. After several exercises, the student will see all the signs on the left and right at the same time. Download methodical material from letters and numbers on the Web.

    Regression suppression

Returning a look at a line already read - regression - greatly slows down the pace of reading. To get rid of the unwanted effect, use the following training exercises:

    1. Indicate the direction of reading.

Take a pointer or pencil, take it along the lines only forward. The child intuitively follows the pointer without looking back.

    1. Close read text.

Prepare a special bookmark for the student. Let the second grader put it on top of the text, gradually moving down as you read. So the passage you read will be hidden from view. It is impossible to return to it.

    1. Check the speed constantly.

Measure your reading technique every day. To improve the result, you will always have to move forward without looking back.

    Articulation suppression

Younger schoolchildren often cannot read to themselves without pronouncing words with their lips, even silently. This is unacceptable for speed reading. Articulation must be suppressed. The technique of gliding through the text is trained as follows:

We read to the music without words, then with the song on. Pay attention to understanding the meaning of the text.

Have class members hum while reading. This is a complex but effective method.

Read and drum with your fingers and pencil on the table. Pace gradually increase.

Clamp tight lips, cover your mouth with your palm. We read to ourselves with the highest possible speed.

Important! After reading, ask the student questions in the text to verify reading comprehension.

    Attention and Concentration Exercises

Without a high level of attention, it is impossible to read quickly and at the same time understand what the text is about, to highlight the main thing. To adjust attention and concentration, do the following exercises:

Take the long word. For example, "representation". Short words are made of it: “forest”, “rampart”, “toast”, “harm” and others.

In pairs: “horse - laziness”, “dream - tone”, “kitty - fox” differences are sought. It is necessary to explain in detail how they are similar and different.

Type texts on the PC in different fonts. Invite your child to read. It is necessary to gradually increase the speed of reading such texts so that attention is not focused on the size and type of the font.

Write on the proposal sheet with the words rearranged in the wrong order: “the goby on the go goes sighs sways”. The task is to find a place for every word.

After reading the text, you need to emphasize the controversial points in pencil, highlight the main thoughts.

    1. We include both hemispheres in our work.

We read with the left and right eye alternately. Use this technique as homework and workout in class.

Questions with a trick, cunning riddles develop attention well.

    Use a field like this:

Task: without reading a word, name the color with which the letters are painted.

    The development of an attitude

This skill is well developed in adults. Guessing the word within the meaning of the text, not seeing the end of the sentence, develops when performing the following tasks:

First, the text is read in its usual form, then turned 90 ° or upside down. It is being worked out.

Lay a wide ruler on the sides of the text. The beginning and end of the sentence will not be visible. The child will have to guess what words are written there in meaning.

Now close the upper halves of the letters on one line with a ruler. The child is reading.

    Memory training

    1. visual dictation

The child is given a text to read. Then all phrases are obscured except the first sentence. 7-8 seconds are given for memorization, the child writes down from memory. Thus, in stages, the text is completely processed.

We read the words on one topic. For example, forest - tree - bump - bear, etc. A schoolboy listens and reproduces the chain orally, in writing. You need to start with three to five words, gradually increasing to ten to twelve.

The child is given the text with the missing letters. They need to be guessed when reading. Plus methods: the student keeps in mind the meaning of the text, expands the vocabulary.

Age features and readiness at 7 years old

At the age of seven, children begin to be actively interested in what is written on the objects surrounding them.

First you need to understand how ready the child is for such a responsible and difficult process. This can be determined by:

    • lack of pronunciation of words,
    • good language proficiency,
    • development of phonemic hearing, when a child is able to distinguish and repeat the sounds heard,
    • lack of hearing problems
    • free orientation in the environment.

Attentive parents will always notice such progress in the development of their son or daughter, and will help to improve these skills.

    Best practices

Before teaching a child to read, parents themselves need to get an idea of how this should happen. To this end, special techniques have been developed that will help to carry out such crucial tasks with children of 7 years without pressure and haste:

Doman's method. This method is also called "global reading." It involves learning to read whole words through engaging mechanical memory in the process. So, on the table it is necessary to lay out cards with simple words written on them: “mom”, “dad”, “closet”, “chair”, etc. Seeing them constantly, the kid will remember the spelling, which later will help him learn to read faster.

Such classes can be carried out even with infants 5-6 months.

This is one of the most common methods, but caution should be exercised with it, since in the future the child may get used to the “fragmentation” of words.

Cubes of Zaitsev. Studying syllables on beautifully composed diagrams, tables and cards will help to memorize words, develop speech and improve thinking, develop fantasy.

The choice of methodology is best done in conjunction with a child psychologist. If this is not possible, then you can ask the pediatrician or the future teacher of the child for advice.

    Where to start syllabus learning?

It is important to consider that seven-year-old children should not be taught speed reading. This technique is still too complicated for them, and is suitable only for students aged 10-12. Before children reach this age, they are best taught to read at a pace appropriate to the spoken. So they will be much easier to remember and absorb new information.

If the mother does not know where to start training, then it is necessary to pay attention to specialized bookstores with children's benefits. Today there are a lot of brochures that help in this process, so there will be plenty to choose from.

Cubes and cards are very suitable for preschool children who are just beginning to learn the basics of reading. But for children of seven years old you need to buy the ABCs, posters, puzzles.

How syllable tables help and how to use them

Syllabic tables are an excellent way to learn. These are special sets that consist of syllables repeated several times in a row. A striking example is the following plate:

The advantage of this technique is that speaking syllables perfectly trains the child's articulation apparatus. To begin with, all syllables are spoken out at a slow pace, then it gradually accelerates. The result is a kind of tongue twister, which is pronounced "in one go".

Thanks to such activities, speech motor skills are significantly improved, and oratorical abilities develop. Of course, it will be difficult for a child at first, so you should not expect lightning-fast results.

In one lesson, you can pronounce no more than 3 lines. If the child is hard, then you need to stop at line 1, but study it thoroughly. Otherwise, the effect of the classes will not be.

Open syllables can be read in two directions - diagonally or vertically. The consonant sound must be “pulled” in such a way that it slowly and smoothly flows into the vowel. This principle is characteristic for reading diagonally. If you read it vertically, the vowel will remain the same, but the consonants will change.

Basic rules for teaching reading to a child in grade 1

To make the learning process as easy as possible for a younger student, it is necessary:

    1. Choose the right training aid. It is best to give preference to the aforementioned primer N. S. Zhukova, where all the peculiarities of letters and syllables are painted and taken into account as much as possible.
    2. Learn vowels and consonants in the correct order. First you need to learn open, “solid” vowels: A, O, S, U, E. Then you can move on to the study of hard voiced consonants: M and L.

Only after this can we begin to study the hissing sounds of Zh, Sh, K, D, etc.

  • After the passed stage, it is necessary to repeat it in order to consolidate the result.
  • Next, you can move on to learning to read syllables. The consonant letter must be held out as long as possible so that it gently and smoothly flows into the vowel. For example, the syllable "ma" must be pronounced as follows: "mmmmm-ahhh."
  • The first syllables to be studied should be simple: ma, la, lo, etc.
  • When the child learns to read simple syllables, you can teach him more complex: AB, OM, CSS, etc. And only after passing this stage should you start reading whole words.
  • How to teach a child to read syllables at home - 8 basic rules

To date, the child in the first grade must be led already prepared. He must know not only letters, but also be able to read. Not all children go to kindergartens, and in kindergartens they do not always teach letters and letters. Therefore, very often the question arises before parents is how to teach a child to read syllables at home.

Many questions immediately arise: where to start, what methodology to choose so that it is quick and effective. The ways of learning to read syllables are so diverse that many moms and dads are simply lost. Let's try to sort out these issues in order.

    Table of contents:

    The main popular methods

There are many different schools, individual and copyright methods. Let's dwell on some that are truly capable of producing results.

    Cubes of Zaitsev

    • Unlike traditional primers, this method allows you to learn not only individual letters, but also combinations of consonants and vowels, individual letters, as well as the use of soft and hard characters. Total cubes 52.
    • During the game, the baby can not only make up different words, but also understand what deaf and voiced consonants are. Cubes with images of consonant sounds are filled with pieces of wood, and with images of voiced voices - with metal details.
    • As an application, there are tables on which there are also syllables. The main rule is not to read, but to sing.
    • Cubes vary in size: large cubes with the image of solid combinations and consonants, and smaller cubes with soft consonants.
    • The disadvantage of such a technique, judging by the reviews, is that already at school the child may have difficulty parsing the word in terms of composition, as well as some children subsequently simply “swallow” graduations. Well, plus: the kids quickly and in a playful way master the alphabet and reading by syllables.

    Montessori Reading Training

The whole process is not entirely traditional: first we write, and then we learn the letter, and then the syllable. The advantage of the method is that everything is presented in the form of a game. First, the letters are hatched and circled, and then their pronunciation is learned. Letters are cut out of rough paper. The same letter can be inscribed, for example, on decoy. The disadvantage of this technique is that you will have to prepare a lot of material for training.

    Dynamic Chaplygin Cubes

The set includes 10 cubes and 10 blocks that move. The task of the child is to make a pair of vowels and consonants. They are depicted on each side of the cube. Each dynamic block includes a consonant and a vowel.

At first it is recommended to make simple words, and then move on to more complex ones. Children really like to play and learn at the same time. In addition, motor skills are involved. Detailed instructions are included with the kit.

Still popular are “Clamshells” and “Teremki” by V. Voskobovich, as well as Doman's Cards.

10 rules for teaching a child to read syllables

My children learned to read letters early, and then they spied coolly according to syllables. And acquaintances asked to tell them how to properly teach the child to read. The fact is that they began to teach the child to read letters immediately, as they are pronounced in the alphabet, that is, “M” is the letter “Em”, “B” is the letter “Be”, etc. Eh, why did they start so wrong? “They just ruined everything,” I said.

Therefore, in this material I will give my own methodology, which, however, is well known how to quickly and correctly teach a child to read so that he can freely read any children's book for preschool children by school.

So, here are the basic rules:

    1)The first one.
Council for the selection of methods and manuals.
It will be best if you buy a primer, authored by N.S. Zhukova (see photo).

This manual is very effective in helping the child understand how to start making letters in syllables, read in syllables, and then with whole sentences. There are not so many pictures in it, but they are enough so that your child does not get bored.
Be sure to buy this primer, it is sold in any bookstore with educational literature (or you can download it online if you find it). I taught my children exactly according to this technique, having looked at a bunch of others before and focusing on this one.

    2)The second one.
How to learn vowels and consonants.
    First we learn open vowels, solid: A, O, U, S, E.
Then we learn hard voiced consonants: M, L.
Important: you need to pronounce consonants only with sounds, that is, not Me, not Em, but simply “M” and that's it.
Then we learn deaf and hissing sounds: F, W, K, D, T, etc.

    3)The third.
Repetition is the mother of learning.
Be sure to repeat the material covered in each lesson, that is, those sounds that we learned in the previous lesson. Fastening the material will allow you to quickly develop the correct reading mechanism in the child.

    4)Fourth.
    We read in syllables.
And now, when we have already learned some of the sounds, we need to teach the child to read in syllables. In fact, it is not as difficult as it seems.
    Let's analyze the syllable “Ma”.
Look in the alphabet as the first letter of the syllable - "M" - runs to the second letter - "a". And so it is necessary to teach the child to read according to the syllables: "mmm-ma-a-a-a-a-a" - "mm-mm-ma-a-a-a-a-a". The child must understand that the first letter runs to the second, and as a result, both are pronounced together, together, inseparably from each other.

    5)Fifth.
    Learn simple syllables.
The first syllables that you must teach your child to read should be simple, consisting of two sounds, for example, MA, LA, PA, LO, PO.
The child must understand how sounds are composed into syllables, he must understand the algorithm for this reading by syllables. Then, after a couple of days, he will begin to read more complex syllables, as if on the thumb: ZhU, VE, DO, that is, with hissing and deaf consonants.

    6)Sixth.
    Learn more complex syllables.
It is too early to move on to reading books, that is, to reading words. It is better to reinforce reading by syllables, so that the child thoroughly understands the mechanism of syllables, and of these words.
So, after the child has already begun to read in two-letter syllables, start giving him more complex syllables in which the vowel is ahead of the consonant: AB, OM, US, EH.

    7)Seventh.
We teach you to read the first simple words.
And here you can begin to give read the first simple words: MA-MA, RA-MA, MO-LO-KO.

    The eighth.
    We follow the pronunciation.
To teach your child to read well, be sure to follow the first pronunciation of syllables.
Attention: some parents and even teachers and educators in kindergartens make children sing syllables. Children get used to it and begin to sing them constantly, while not even making spaces between words. That is, “ma-ma-we-la-ra-mu” is sung by such children in the same breath. And some children even manage to sing the entire text of the entire paragraph, without pausing even when there are dots, commas or exclamation (question) marks.
Therefore: if you teach a child to read, teach well right away - do not allow the child to sing everything, be sure to force him to pause between words and, moreover, between sentences. Immediately teach the child this way: he sang a word, a pause, sang the second, a pause. Then he will shorten the pauses himself, but pause must be done first to begin.

    9)The ninth.
At what age should a child be taught to read?
Do not rush things. If your child is 3 or 4 years old, he is completely reluctant to sit and sprinkle over books, fluently read or make letters in syllables. At this age, it is too early to begin to teach a child to read, unless, of course, he himself expresses his strong desire to master a letter.
Another thing, at 5 and even 6 years old - at this age, in fact, the preparatory age for school, children must be taught to read and write basic phrases in block letters. Type "MOTHER", "COW", "MILK". Usually, kindergarten teachers cope with this. But those children who do not go to kindergarten for one reason or another, must necessarily get this knowledge at home from their parents, or grandparents, or from a tutor. The fact is that the modern curriculum in high school already implies that the child comes to the first grade already able to read by syllables.
Therefore, if you teach him before school, then it will be very easy for him to read at school, and he will survive the first stress from school.

    10)Tenth.
    Learning by playing.
Do not try to immediately teach your child to read fluently, or expressively. First of all, he must learn to compose syllables on his own, read them in a book, compose words and sentences, that is, master simply the reading technique. Let it be very slow at first, let it be difficult for him. But you must smoothly, quietly and calmly correct his mistakes, as if effortlessly. After all, a game is always relaxation, lack of stress. And this is precisely what is needed so that the child calmly understands everything that adults require of him.

    Take a note and share

And the last one. If you follow all these 10 tips, you will teach your child to read pretty quickly - in 1.5-2 months. They learned this from me as early as 5 years old during the summer holidays, when the kindergarten was closed.
And in the first grade they read quite fluently. And by the way, most of the children in the first grade already knew how to read and count to ten, so my children did not have to catch up with them.

How to teach a child to read syllables at home. Primary school teacher tips

Parents learn to read at home when they don’t know the teaching methods - it’s the same as giving the child a spoon, but not telling how to use it. In our article we will consider what parents need to know and what basic mistakes to avoid in order to correctly teach the child to read independently.

    Problems with improper reading instruction

Teachers who teach kids to read, know their age characteristics, have a complete arsenal of teaching methods and can find an individual approach to the child in each case. Parents do not have such skills and knowledge, therefore they often make mistakes by organizing the process of learning to read on their own, without prior preparation or consultation. Based on my many years of experience in elementary grades, I want to point out the main problems that arise if you do not know how to correctly teach your child to read in syllables.

The main mistake that is difficult to fix is letter reading. Parents believe that it is letters that are the main unit of reading and teach the child to first name the letters, and then try to combine them into a whole word. Even worse, if they practice using the full names of letters (“em”, “pe”, etc.) or do not correct the baby when he says “we”, “py”, calling consonants.

This approach is fundamentally wrong: with such training, the child does not master the mechanism of sound-letter merging of a syllable, he learns to read only on the basis of memorization and reproduction of verbal formulations (such as "e" and "a" - it will be "la"), and this significantly slows down reading speed, the child often confuses syllables and makes mistakes.

To wean a “learned” child from using such an algorithm, it will take at least 4-6 months to retrain. Even when the teacher can explain and show the child that it is not necessary to pronounce such formulas, but the whole syllable should be called right away, the child will continue to do as before “in the mind” and only then pronounce the resulting combination.

One more problem - poorly developed phonemic hearing. Parents are generally not inclined to pay attention to the use of various phonemic exercises. Therefore, the child only at school begins to get acquainted with the concept of sound, learn to distinguish it in the speech flow, to determine its place in the word. But it is a stable association “letter = sound” that is the basis of continuous reading and competent spelling. Particularly serious problems arise when studying the letters "s", "I", "y", "e", "e", as well as the signs "b", "b", because their use is based only on the ability to determine what sounds they designate (or separate) in a specific position.

Do not forget that often parents achieve results due to persistence and constant demands on the child, because they don’t own a wide range of didactic games and exercises. Therefore, a preschooler can quickly lose interest in reading and perceive this process as a boring "binding".

To avoid all the errors described and to correctly teach the child to read, we suggest that parents use our recommendations below.

    Syllabus teaching guidelines

Pedagogy describes several ways of teaching a child to read. The most effective is considered a method of reading by syllables, which is based on the sound-letter approach. In this case, syllables are the main "bricks" of which the word is composed. Consider how to teach a child to read syllables at home.

So, first you need to familiarize the child with the basic vowel sounds and letters that they are designated: "a", "o", "y". Each letter needs to be given 2-3 lessons. The algorithm for studying these and subsequent letters is as follows.

    Stage №1 Motivation

The lesson must begin with a game moment, which will cause the child to interest in what will happen. You can show him a toy or a frame from a cartoon, let him listen to a song, etc. Your task is to draw the attention of the baby to a specific subject. For instance:

    • treat the child with an orange,
    • let me see a cartoon about a donkey,
    • show the duck and let her swim in the bowl.

After such an action, ask the baby a question (what he ate, what he played with, etc.), and then ask him to repeat the name of the object again.

Stage number 2. Getting to know the sound

Next, you need to highlight the first sound in the word. To do this, speak a word and extend the first sound, pronounce it louder and more distinctly than others. Invite the child to repeat after you. He must identify and name what first sound in the word he heard.

Now you need to play with this sound:

    • pronounce with different strength of voice (quieter - louder),
    • to sing
    • speak with different intonation.

It is important to pay attention to the articulation of sound. Be sure to discuss with your child as it turns out to pronounce this sound, in what position are the lips, teeth and tongue. To do this, invite him to watch you or look in the mirror at yourself. When studying vowels, it is recommended to show the baby the appropriate demonstration pictures.

    Phonetic Hearing Games

When you have already learned several sounds with your child, be sure to play the game “Guess the sound” with him - according to the position of the articulation organs, he must guess what sound you are going to make.

After these games, offer your child other exercises for developing phonetic hearing:

    • Name words that also begin with the desired sound.
    • “Catch the sound” - the adult must pronounce different words, and the baby repeats them and if he hears the specified sound in it, he claps his hands.
    • “The house is populated” - to make a cardboard template of the house with 3-4 windows and invite the child to place pictures with those objects in them, the name of which begins with the desired sound.
    • “Tell the word” - you name the part of the word, and the child must say it completely, adding a sound at the beginning (at the end) of the word.

Attention! It is not necessary to use more than 2 exercises in one lesson.

Stage number 3. Acquaintance with the letter

Now it’s time to learn the letter. To do this, you can invite the child to find the desired picture (for example, an orange) among the cubes or alphabet. It should be explained that since the name of this object begins with the sound a, then a letter was written next to it, which this sound means.

    Examples:

Invite the child to carefully consider the letter, determine what parts it consists of (sticks, ovals, hooks). Discuss with him what the letter looks like. It is recommended to use special pictures in which the letter is depicted as a real object. If possible, you can create such pictures yourself directly during the lesson. It will be very interesting for the child to observe the transformation of the letter.

You also need to ask the baby to write a letter. This can be done in many ways:

    • draw with chalk on a blackboard
    • write with your finger in the sand
    • to mold from plasticine,
    • to lay out buttons
    • twist from wire, etc.

Such exercises will really please the child and will allow you to better remember the letter.

    Stage number 4. Syllable

When the baby learns the first three vowel sounds, each subsequent sound (after reading the letter) is immediately included in the syllables. The main thing is to explain this so that the child understands the very mechanism of merging two sounds into one single syllable. The adult must show the two letters and say that now he will pronounce them together, without stopping and separating.

For an additional effect, you can add a visualization:

    • put two dice side by side,
    • write letters on the details of the constructor and connect them together,
    • put letters in one house, etc.

Having shown the child the syllable, the adult must clearly and longly pronounce it, and then ask the child to repeat it. Further, it should be explained in words that in order to pronounce the syllable “ma”, you first need to close your lips for sound m and immediately open your mouth and round your lips to pronounce sound a. It is recommended that this process be demonstrated several times, inviting the child to do the same.

As practice shows, such detailed explanations and training will be needed only for the first 1-2 weeks of syllabic reading classes. As soon as the child understands and assimilates the principle of connecting sounds into syllables, he will easily do this in any combination.

In addition to learning to read direct syllables (consonant + vowel), you need to offer him to read reverse (vowel + consonant) and complex (2-3 consonants + vowel) syllables. The technique is similar: demonstrate a sample, analyze articulation and perform training exercises.

    Read by syllables

The presented methodology of how to teach a child to read in syllables is suitable for studying at home with a baby from 5 years old. After 2-3 weeks of classes, the child will be able to independently call the syllable by looking at the written letters. Do not rush him, however, if he is at a loss to pronounce the syllable after 30-60 seconds, he needs to be prompted, help to make the syllable. This should be done in a friendly manner, without irritation and reproaches.

When the child makes the first syllables “ma”, “mu”, it is time to show that by combining some syllables together, you can get the whole word. It is better to explain this using syllabic cubes (you can buy a special set or make them yourself) or constructor parts. The main thing is to show that to read the word you need to name the syllables and then combine them. Be sure to ask the child what word came out and what it means.

In the future, when it will not be necessary to spend a lot of time explaining all the described basics of reading by syllables, the main part of the classes should be devoted to training exercises. Practitioners argue that there is no other way to learn to read well than to read constantly. The more often and more the child reads, the better it will turn out for him. And so he needs to maintain a constant interest in reading classes. To do this, it is recommended to use a variety of didactic games.

    Examples:

    Didactic reading learning games

    The game "The Sun"

The figure shows the sun with rays. The studied letter is placed in the center, and the remaining letters are at the ends of the rays. Moving from the center along the ray, you need to name the syllable that turns out. You can move in the opposite direction.

A similar game is called Watch. The main letter is placed in the center of the arrow, and the rest are on the dial. Moving the arrow, we call the resulting syllable.

The game "Run along the track"

Pick a picture with a short winding track. Place circles with printed syllables on it. The child receives a chip and begins to move it forward, naming syllables along the way. You can arrange a team game - who will pass faster and not be mistaken.

    Dice game

For cubes with syllables, you can come up with a lot of tasks:

    • read all the syllables on the cube,
    • choose cubes to make a word,
    • replace (add) one syllable in the composed word to get a new word,
    • pick up the syllable to the picture, which is the first in the name of the depicted item.

You can even just give your child a box with such cubes, and he can invent a way to play with them.

    Syllable table

Make an interactive syllable table. It is made according to the principle of the Pythagorean table. Rows should be added to the table as you learn new letters. Tasks for working with the table can be the following:

    • find the indicated letter and read all the syllables with it,
    • find the named syllable in the table,
    • show the named syllables in the table and make a word out of them,
    • draw rays between syllables to make a word.

Later, you need to make another table, which will consist of complex syllables.

As a result of constant training exercises, the ability to call syllables will be brought to automaticity, and from this the reading speed will increase significantly. However, parents need to remember that this is not the only criterion that is important for good reading. Attention should also be paid to the development of such characteristics of reading as awareness and expressiveness, that is, we are already talking about the reading technique in a complex.

Is it possible to teach a child to read quickly at home?

Hello dear readers and subscribers. Today we’ll talk about how to teach your child to read quickly at home. There are at least three opinions on this subject:

    1. Psychologists who believe that the best age for learning is from 4 years old,
    2. Teachers - the average child begins to show interest in the letters under the pictures from the age of 5,
    3. Mommies on the playground - they have all the children polls begin to read earlier than they speak. Well, in extreme cases, from three years.

    Objective approach

Before condemning the pros and cons of various programs, let's decide what actually gives the baby early learning to read (writing, memorizing poetry, dancing, linguistics, etc.).

Let us make a reservation right away, we will not consider the ambitions of parents and their desire to brag to their friends and relatives about the “genius” of their child.

Many mothers and fathers are convinced that the early development of the child will only benefit him. They begin to look for a developing school almost from the cradle.

But if you approach the issue more impartially, then, most likely, either the parents have some psychological difficulties, or they have nothing to occupy their child and provide him with a happy childhood.

On the other hand, the pace of today's life does not allow us to follow the advice of our grandmothers: “Go to school - learn everything!” Almost all specialists (teachers, psychologists, doctors) agree that it is preferable to teach a child to read from 5 years old.

    Basic Reading Learning Skills

A child should be taught to read with methods aimed at general development.

The kid is ready to learn when:

    • well-developed speech, pronounced sentences consist of several words,
    • there are no pronounced defects in pronunciation (but remember that most children do not pronounce the sound "P" until 6 years old),
    • well orientated in space, understands top / bottom, right / left,
    • phonemic hearing is developed - it can highlight a separate sound in a word, find a common sound in different words

    Overview of Existing Methods

The children are all different, one of them can be put in the alphabet as early as 3 years old, and some fidgets and at 7 years old will gladly exchange a book for a soccer ball. Nevertheless, we present to parents the best of existing reading teaching techniques. And be sure to consider all the pros and cons.

    Phonetic

Another name is sound or “by syllables”. The technique is old and quite controversial, it taught both our grandmothers and our mothers. On the one hand, progress does not stand still, including in terms of developmental programs, and on the other hand, many generations have studied it, as a result, they learned to read and mastered the letter.

    The essence of the method:

    • teaching letters to their phonetic pronunciation (sounds),
    • the next stage is memorization (reading) of individual syllables,
    • continuous reading of syllables in a word,
    • fluent reading of words in a sentence.

All steps are gradual, letters, syllables and words are pronounced only out loud.

    Positive points

    1. This training program is used in elementary school - the child will understand everything, there will be no need to restructure.
    2. Since parents learned to read this way, the technique is familiar to them - to teach another that you know much easier.
    3. Almost all classes are based on speaking and voicing sounds and words, this contributes to the formation of the baby's phonemic hearing, which means that in the future he will not only read, but also write, and speak correctly.
    4. The method uses the special recommendations of speech therapists.
    5. For classes, you do not need to allocate time, place, create a special schedule of "lessons" and strictly require the implementation of the schedule. You can train in a free game form: in a store, clinic, train, in the country, and even during a serious trip to the museum.

    Negative points

    1. The method involves teaching a child from 5-6 years old or immediately before school. It is not suitable for fans of early development.
    2. The whole principle of learning is based on the auditory perception of sounds, 3 - 4 year old children (even the most extraordinary) do not have a sufficient level of development. Therefore, if a child has not reached 5 years of age, teaching in this program is pointless.

At what age is it time to learn to read?

If you send a seven-year-old who cannot read to the first grade, they will certainly teach him there. But is it wise to rely only on school? Every year, the number of preschoolers reading is growing, and teachers are increasingly focused on them. A child’s performance will largely depend on the level of reading skills, so it makes sense to attend to this issue before entering school.

Senior preschool is an ideal time to teach your child to read. Psychologists say that by this time the human brain reaches the optimal level of development for such activities. On the one hand, mental maturity sets in, and on the other, when a child is 5-7 years old, he is better than ever able to absorb a huge amount of information. The main thing is to submit it correctly, to stimulate interest in reading.

No matter how much adults want to accelerate the development of the offspring, one must act patiently and in no case force the child to read. The child’s interest in reading will grow the faster, the more positive associations will be associated with books. Regular reading aloud of favorite fairy tales and other fascinating stories will strengthen the emotional bond between the child and the parent, books will become associated with a small person with a state of peace and security. Audiobooks can be a good alternative - you can freely find records of old Soviet records in excellent quality on the net.

When choosing works, it is necessary to bet on the interests of the child himself. Most likely, he will like to read about the adventures of children like himself, about their experiences and problems, about friendship and courage, about funny and sad things - all this is close to him.It will be useful for parents to remember their favorite books of their childhood and re-read them with their child. When the kid understands that reading is not just an annoying requirement for school, but a key to amazing worlds, he will want to read it.

Let your child communicate more often with children who already know how to read - the example of peers or those who are not much older will work better than persuading parents.

In this case, the effects of adults should be soft and reasonable. It is forbidden to compare children with others: “There’s Kolya reading well, but you don’t, it’s a shame!” And this concerns not only reading. Each child follows his own path of development, and parents should carefully guide him, and not crush authority or try to force things.

    Reading Technique: Speed and Understanding

Strictly speaking, the term “reading technique” implies not only speed, expressed in the number of words read per minute. In addition to speed, this concept includes:

    • way of reading - in syllables or in whole words,
    • degree of expressiveness of reading - correct logical stresses, observance of intonations and pauses,
    • the level of reading comprehension - the mechanical folding of syllables into words should occur in parallel with the understanding of the text,
    • the formation of attitudes towards reading - along with understanding, a well-reading child should have a certain attitude towards reading.

These requirements grow as students move from class to class. If in the 1st grade it is still permissible to read complex words by syllables, then in the 4th grade the last point is already evaluated. Therefore, exercises to increase the speed of reading must necessarily include the development of intonations and take into account the degree of understanding of the text.

Popular exercises to increase reading speed

There are many methods and exercises for training reading techniques, and they are easy to practice at home. In applying any of the methods, it is important to observe three basic principles:

    1. give the child only those tasks that correspond to his level of reading skill,
    2. not to allow him to become very tired from long classes,
    3. it is necessary to praise, it is advisable to record success - this motivates the child to engage in further.

    Rep workout

The student reads the text aloud for 1 minute at a comfortable pace for him. At the end of the time, the teacher marks with a pencil the word that was read last, and the passage begins again. A familiar text is easier to read, and this time in a minute the child will advance a few words further (usually from 2 to 15). Such a clear demonstration of the result makes the student enthusiastic and willing to try again and again. The third time he will be able to read even further.

Another option for this exercise is to determine in advance the target volume that you need to learn to read in a minute. This volume is calculated using the following formula: actual reading speed plus 30 words. Further, by repeated reading, it is necessary to ensure that all text is read in a minute. This may take several days, since in one lesson it is recommended to read the text no more than 3 times.

    Coup

Such a task is suitable for children whose reading speed is 50 or more words per minute. As in the first exercise, the work here is on one passage. For the first time, the student will have to read the text in the usual position, then - at an angle of 90 degrees, without tilting his head (the book will need to be turned), then - a completely inverted text, and then - at an angle of 270 degrees. It is not worth running away large passages immediately, it is better to start with 2-3 sentences. Gradually, the volume can be increased. A complicated option is to read the page reflected in the mirror.

Offering the baby to read an inverted text, show him an example - try to do it yourself. Let him see that you also have something to strive for, it will encourage him.

    Reading and retelling

Retelling itself is an extremely useful exercise, not only for preschoolers, but also for elementary and even high school students. In terms of improving reading skills, retelling trains the habit of understanding what is read, highlighting the main thoughts, supporting words. You can give such a task even to those children who read very poorly: in this case, an adult can read the text himself so that the child retells it. Depending on the level of development of the baby, the text may be shorter or longer, more complex or simpler. It is desirable that this be a complete plot with the plot, development and denouement - so it will be much easier for the learner to build the logic of the narrative.

    Detective

A universal exercise, the complexity of which is easy to adjust, adapting for children with different levels of reading skill. It lies in the fact that the child is invited to find the given words among many others. It can be words written in large print and scattered on a sheet of paper, or it can be a regular book page. The student draws the found word with a pencil and immediately begins to search for the following. As a result, visual memory is trained, attentiveness, the viewing area is expanded.

    Who is faster?

With two or more children, you can organize a small competition: invite them to read at the same time. To do this, you need to find a suitable passage in the book and arrange it so that it is clearly visible to all children (or pre-prepare several copies of the text). On command, everyone begins to read the text aloud, trying to overtake others and not get off at the same time. The process is noisy, but exciting thanks to the healthy spirit of the competition. When the facilitator stops reading, everyone shows the word on which he stopped. At the same time, not only reading speed is trained, but also the ability to focus on one’s thoughts without being distracted by noise — they read everything loudly, trying to shout out to others. Such a group lesson can even be organized spontaneously; it will amuse the children and will not take much time.

Offer children a more serious version of the group exercise - role reading: here not only speed, but also the expressiveness of reading will be important.

    Zorro

Adults never read familiar words by letter or syllable, they see the text with words, phrases, they can read "diagonally." Difficulties are caused only by complex foreign names and rare words - they are read by letter, repeating to themselves several times, wondering where the stress may fall. Children have more of these “complex”, unfamiliar words, which is why they read slowly. The ability to predict, or anticipation, can and should be developed.

In this exercise, the child is invited to read words and lines partially hidden by a “half mask”, which may be a blank sheet of paper or an opaque ruler. First, the bottom of the line is covered, and the student reads several lines, surprised to realize that he understands everything. Then the position of the “mask” changes: now the top of the line is closed. Here the additional effect of the method manifests itself: sooner or later, the child dares that while he is reading the top line, the bottom line is fully open, and tries to quickly read it in advance to facilitate his task. Thanks to such work, reading speed, ability to concentrate, and memory develop on two fronts.

    Additional classes

The mental and physical development of a small person is not two opposites, but two necessary components of the formation of personality. The development of his fine motor skills and how much time he spends in the fresh air, whether he plays outdoor games, or sports, also greatly affects his child’s ability to read. In small doses, even computer games can be useful if they develop a reaction speed, attention, and the ability to navigate cards.

The fact that the development of fine motor skills is directly related to the development of speech was noticed in antiquity. Not for nothing in the folklore of different nations there are many games for young children with the participation of hands and fingers. What people knew intuitively was proved by science: the development of the parts of the brain responsible for motor activity also stimulates the nearby speech center. The more opportunities a baby will have to interact with small objects, the better and more correctly his speech will develop, which means his ability to read.

The development of fine motor skills is relevant for children of any age, the difference is only in the size of the parts and the choice of materials.

    • Drawing - babies can draw with finger paints or safe wax crayons, crawling on a sheet of paper, and for older children, the possibilities in this regard are not limited.
    • Modeling - it is better to start with unpainted salt dough, and then switch to plasticine, various masses for modeling and clay.
    • Playing with the designer - the younger the child, the larger the details, and vice versa.
    • A collection of puzzles - the size of puzzles and mosaic details obeys the same pattern.
    • Various types of weaving - from gum, thread, wire - are suitable for children from 5-6 years old, at this age they are able to get involved in such painstaking work for a long time, which is very useful for the future development of reading and writing skills.

There are a lot of types of creativity and sports activity, and, practicing in any of them, the kid gets valuable experience in his piggy bank that will be useful to him in the future. If in drawing classes he beautifully displays small flowers - this does not mean that an artist will certainly grow out of him. But this will definitely help him quickly and correctly master the letter at school. Just like the construction of towers from the constructor does not mean that the builder is growing in the family, but when the time comes, the child will successfully learn to build words from syllables, and from words - sentences and texts.

And finally, a few teaching methods for reading children + video:

    1) This video presents a traditional technique:

    2) And this video shows the recently popular rebus method (but I still think it's best to use the technique I presented):

    Examples:

    The game "The Sun"

The figure shows the sun with rays. The studied letter is placed in the center, and the remaining letters are at the ends of the rays. Moving from the center along the ray, you need to name the syllable that turns out. You can move in the opposite direction.

A similar game is called Watch. The main letter is placed in the center of the arrow, and the rest are on the dial. Moving the arrow, we call the resulting syllable.

    Phonetic

Another name is sound or “by syllables”.The technique is old and quite controversial, it taught both our grandmothers and our mothers.

    Cons of the program

    1. The main drawback is the swallowing of endings, it is quite difficult to get rid of it, even by the end of elementary school.
    2. Misunderstanding the analysis of words by syllables - it is difficult to understand the principle of transfer, to make phonemic and morphemic analysis.
    3. There are cubes where syllables are designated as they are pronounced, and not as they appear when reading, with time confusion arises.
    4. The whole set of cubes and accompanying materials is quite expensive, and a child of 1 to 4 years old is by no means going to take care of “colorful toys”. You may need to purchase more than one kit or make them yourself.

    Alphabet Zhukova

The technique is available for children from 3 years of age; in classes 4–5, children begin to read in syllables, but the ability to speak well, albeit with small sentences, becomes an important point.

To help parents learn, the alphabet is provided (magnetic alphabet). In fact, there are two authors: Nadezhda Zhukova, Magnetic Alphabet, Primer, and Olesya Zhukova, Alphabet for Kids.

    Negative

    1. Pictures for letters are selected according to a system that does not correspond to the thinking of a 3-5 year old child.
    2. In the "ABC" first comes the words that are useless for the baby who does not know the letter, and only in the second part of the letter and syllables.

There are many more various methods and programs that will help to cope with the problem of reading at any age. For example, for children under 2 years old, the method of Glenn Doman or Elena Bakhtina is perfect,

The most time-consuming program using numerous manuals and dividing the premises into zones is Montessori. For creative children - the methodology of Olga Soboleva, etc.

    Your action plan

The most terrible thing parents can do is to jump from one system to another, or arrange a hard learning regime for the child, like school lessons.

Choose one technique. It should be understood primarily by the teacher (mom, dad, grandmother, neighbor, nanny, etc.).

If the baby does not cope, proceed according to the following plan:

    1. Define the boundaries of the problem (does not read the endings, does not understand the difference between the letter and the sounds, cannot add sounds to syllables, etc.).
    2. Focus attention (and most importantly - patience!) On solving the problem.
    3. Determine the time for a lesson of 15 - 20 minutes, depending on age. No more need. Think: 15 min. per day it is more than one and a half hours a week and 87 hours a month, but how much for six months? Believe me, for such a time you can not only teach words in sentences to learn to add, but also read several volumes of children's fairy tales with your child.
    4. Praise, praise, praise. and so on ad infinitum. If something doesn’t work out: “Well, then you stumbled a little, but then you managed. Well done!"
    5. Motivation is a huge driving force. Even an adult (and seemingly reasonable) person will not do anything well without proper motivation. Show how you spell your own name (let him read it on a T-shirt, mug, cubes, backpack), the name of the street, toy store, etc.
    6. Do not force events!

Do not worry, and do not chase the successes of other children.

By the age of 15-16, your child will still be able to read fluently enough. Maybe it is better to spend a “golden childhood” on music, drawing, interest in football and karate?

Suddenly your kid is a musical genius or a future Olympic champion, and you spend his time on skills that are completely unnecessary to him at this age?

    Additional tips from experienced parents

Even a genius must be able to read and write. So you still have to teach a child literacy, and it is advisable to do this before school. Then the baby will not feel alone "dunno" against the background of other fluent and expressively reading children. Therefore, additional advice from those happy parents who have already passed this path will not hurt:

    1. No need to learn the alphabet in alphabetical order.
    2. Start only with familiar words.
    3. The best helper is colorful illustrations. It can be ready-made pictures, or those that the mother will draw, or those that the baby will draw.
    4. Most of the training, by any method, is in a playful way!
    5. Additionally develop attention, memory, observation.
    6. To involve not only books and cubes as educational material, but also video cartoons, fairy tales, rhymes, developing the perception of speech by ear.
    7. Need to do every day.
    8. Do not overload the child, be sure to control the amount of information received in one lesson.
    9. Do not require quick reading, all attention should be paid to conscious reading. Otherwise, the situation will turn out when the child, having read up to the end of the sentence, forgot what was discussed at the beginning. So the meaning of the text is lost, the baby will not be able to retell what he read.

    Attention exercises

An inattentive baby is hard to teach. But for this there are special games-exercises for attention. To begin with, we teach the child to read words fluently. And then we complicate the task:

    1. Add the word from the cubes and remove 1 letter. In order to find the loss you need to read extremely carefully, by syllables. If the baby is trying to guess the word, it will not work, you will have to slowly read letter by letter.
    2. We add the word in the same way, but in this case we insert the extra letter. At the first stage, it should be a consonant.
    3. Fold and ask to voice a few similar words, differing by 1 - 2 letters.

Such and similar classes train well attentiveness and the ability to listen and perform a specific task. Also, parents in a hurry to teach a child to read recommend an article on phonemic hearing at the link. And an early development according to the method of Zheleznov. For older children, the article “Valuable tips on how to teach a child to read the syllables” read the link.

To summarize, we can say that most of the techniques have not changed much since the time of our mothers and grandmothers. Yes, they are being modernized, more game elements are being introduced, a lot of didactic and auxiliary material is used. Now 2 to 3 year old children are more developed and curious than their peers 20 to 30 years ago.

For parents, the most important thing is to study all the instructions, be patient and start learning, given the inclinations and characteristics of the nature of their child.

Well, that’s probably all. We say goodbye to you to the next no less relevant topic. Subscribe to our blog so you don’t miss anything. And be sure to send the link to your friends, maybe they have a different opinion?

How to teach a child to read and write letters at home: tools and materials

There are many aids that will allow the baby to quickly remember the alphabet. We will give the most popular and effective of them.

    • ABC. It should be in large print and bright, beautiful pictures. It is advisable that on each page the authors place a short thematic quatrain. A preschooler will easily remember him, and with it the letter.
    • Magnetic boards. It’s convenient to work with them. Not only alphabetic characters are attached to them, but also images. You can ask the child to make the name of an object, find a drawing for the letter that is being studied at the moment, play dominoes from words (each new one begins with the way the previous one ended).
    • Printed patterns. Large elements of the alphabet, written in A4 format, are suitable for game learning. Ask your son or daughter to decorate the “letter of the day” with various small items. For these purposes, threads, buttons, ribbons, pieces of colored paper, fine sea pebbles, and beads are suitable. When the task is completed, remove the template and offer to reproduce the graphic image of the letter from memory using the same materials at hand.
    • Creative assignments. Sculpt syllables and words from plasticine, cut out of paper, build from the designer. When the baby completes the assignment, ask what he did. If he answers, the lesson was successful; if not, consolidate the material.
    • Alphabetical food. Look for cookies, pasta, letter-shaped morning breakfasts, and every meal will turn into a fascinating lesson.
    • Educational sets. They are sold at any children's store. Suitable for parents who do not want to spend time creating auxiliary materials and prefer to use ready-made ones.

How to quickly teach a child to read and understand what they read: rules and exercises

    • Do not force. Each baby has its own pace of development. Some at age three smartly recite poems, while others by this time are only just beginning to speak clearly. Interest in reading will wake up earlier if you will be engaged with children from infancy, develop speech, memory, attention.
    • Read constantly. Introduce your children to the world of literature, starting from the first days of their lives. Go from plain books with vivid pictures to more serious works. Read bedtime stories and on the road, replace them with cartoons and computer games. If your son or daughter is already an adult, take them to specialty stores, buy new volumes together. Let the child see that mom and dad are reading too - nothing contributes to the development of interest as much as the parental example.
    • Learn the sounds first. Do not explain at the initial stage how “p” differs from “eras”. The teacher will do it. Better teach you to add syllables, read simple words. Gradually deepen your knowledge so that there is no mess in the student’s head.
    • Read aloud. Observe the minute and count how many words the child managed to read during this time. Arrange a competition if he has brothers or sisters. For each improvement in the result, give a small present: a new set of felt-tip pens, a coloring book, a book or something tasty. An incentive may be an increase in “computer” time or an exemption from homework (you don’t walk with a dog today, you don’t wash dishes).
    • Repeat. The kid will forget that the letter “s” already existed if you did not periodically recall it. Regularly conduct small test work in a playful way. Before class, ask your student to tell you what happened in the last lesson.
    • Learn everywhere. On the way to the kindergarten, read the signs, remember the names of fairy-tale characters, the names of plants, food or animals in the letter that you recently learned, draw syllables with a stick in the sand or the ground.
    • Do not forget about practical value. Prove that only a competent person can write greeting cards to relatives, make lists of products, read instructions. Make a family tree together, find out the initials of each close relative.

If you do not know anything about your roots, contact the House of Genealogy. We will find information about your ancestors and tell you from whom your family originates. Our customers are guaranteed to receive:

    1. Founder Certificate
    2. Free courier delivery in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The child will be happy to learn letters from a colorfully designed book, which will be written not only about distant great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers, but also about himself, his mom and dad, brothers and sisters.

    • Exercise regularly. Learn every day and get results.Determine the exact time when the child will work, and follow the schedule. Do not forget to include free days in the new regime so that the baby has time to rest.
    • Use a bookmark. If you close it with an already read passage, it will be easier for children to focus on the next passage.

    Glenn Doman Cards

The developer of the method is an American physiotherapist. He believes that the human brain grows up to 7 years, and it is during this period that all its resources should be used. The emphasis is on the visual perception of information. Parents purchase special cards: red letters on a white background. They are sold in children's stores, but you can make them yourself if you wish. If you resort to the last option, do not grind. The optimal size of the workpieces is 50 by 10 cm.

One lesson includes three stages, 15 words each. In the early days, show your baby nouns. Pronounce clearly what is written on the card. Gradually increase the number of “approaches”. Add other parts of speech, demonstrate several words at once, compose phrases and sentences.

During training, the visual and auditory memory of the child is activated. He involuntarily begins to correlate the graphic style with the sound envelope, and learns to read imperceptibly for himself.

Despite the fact that the technique gives good results, it has many opponents. Experts rightly notice that a preschooler remembers information mechanically, knowledge is encyclopedic in nature. Self-analysis skills develop poorly, creative thinking remains in its infancy. We do not encourage parents to abandon this method, but do not recommend using it alone.

    Cubes of Zaitsev

The method of mastering reading in cubes, which depict not traditional letters, but syllables and words. It is ideal for classes with young children. But at one time it was tested on adults to learn foreign languages.

    The essence of the method:

    • training not in syllables, but in warehouses,
    • all cubes are different in size, workmanship, color, etc., depending on the stores written on them - hard / soft, voiced / deaf, hard and soft signs, punctuation marks,
    • the child learns the correct memorization of words, phrases and sentences.

    Program Benefits

    1. The child easily and quickly, in a playful way, without errors and hesitation, learns to fluently read whole sentences.
    2. There are no erroneous storages, words, expressions on the cubes - in the future you will not have to memorize many grammatical rules, the student will simply not know how to write a misspelled word.
    3. You can start training from 1 year.
    4. If initially the child was not able to learn another learning system or elementary school curriculum, Zaitsev’s cubes will become an ambulance. And a 7 year old child will learn fluent reading over the holidays.
    5. The method will help not only in the development of reading, but also in the development of memory, fine motor skills, hearing and rhythm.

    The essence of the technique

    • memorization is carried out in this order: vowels, vowel syllables, words of 3 letters or 2 syllables, simple words, phrases, sentences,
    • the training of conscious, understanding-based reading.

    Positive

    1. Bright, vivid pictures.
    2. The basis of both ABC and ABC is traditional phonetic training.
    3. Large font, marked accents.
    4. The child not only learns to read, but also simultaneously remembers unfamiliar names, objects, verbs.

    Negative

How to teach a child to read

If a child goes to first grade, being able to read, study will be easier for him. To develop this useful skill, it is not necessary to resort to the help of paid tutors. If you are ready to set aside time for daily activities with your son or daughter, then you can do it yourself. Our article will tell you how at home to quickly and easily teach a child to read correctly and well in syllables and in whole words for a year.

Learn every day and get results. Determine the exact time when the child will work, and follow the schedule. Do not forget to include free days in the new regime so that the baby has time to rest.
    • Use a bookmark. If you close it with an already read passage, it will be easier for children to focus on the next passage.

How to quickly teach a child to read: reading techniques and techniques

The famous Soviet teacher, Nikolai Aleksandrovich Zaitsev, created this famous pedagogical tool that can interest children and arouse their interest in reading. He thought about how to teach a child to love to read in a playful way and developed a set of 52 cubes. 7 of them are the same. They are included so that the baby can lay out words such as “mom” and “dad”.

According to the scientist’s methodology, the basic unit of the language is not a letter, sound or syllable, but a warehouse. This can be a pair of consonants and vowels, a combination with a soft or hard sign, and even one letter. The main thing is that the child can easily and effortlessly pronounce what is written on the edges. During the game, children quickly catch the difference between vowels and consonants, voiced and deaf. They begin to understand the principle of word composition.

Hard warehouses are written on large parts, soft ware on small ones. Explain to the baby that the size of the toy is related to how a person opens his mouth when he pronounces a particular warehouse (“ba” - broadly, “ba” - a little bit). When working with cubes, several types of sensory perception are involved at once: sight, hearing, tactile sensations. In classic sets, game elements are made of two materials: wood and iron. Voiced consonants are depicted on iron, deaf on wooden. On store shelves you will see plastic and even cardboard options that you need to glue yourself.

The color of the toys also helps with learning: on gold - only vowels, on iron and wooden - a combination of letters, on white - punctuation. Double cubes show the child that in Russian not all letters can stand next to each other, some need certain pairs.

In addition to the cubes, the training kits include tables where not only the warehouses that are already on the toys are reflected, but also new ones are added. Please note that posters must be placed at the level of growth of the preschooler. He must see what is depicted on them.

If you decide to use this technique, follow the sequence of actions:

    1. Let the kid get acquainted with the new toy. This can be done even by children under the age of two. Put the cubes at their complete disposal without explaining what is written on them. Let them build a tower out of them, try it on the tooth, knock on one another.
    2. When the child begins to talk, start learning. Observe which part of the kit particularly appealed to your son or daughter. Take a close look at it together. ON THE. Zaitsev recommended that adults not pronounce, but sing along what is written on the sides. He considered such a way of exploring warehouses to be more efficient and fun.
    3. Enter work with tables at a late stage. It also involves co-singing. Invite a student to find a cube with the same combinations that have just been voiced. Tell the story of the lost twin warehouses you need to help meet.
    4. Do not forget about the gaming component. Come up with interesting tasks that the baby wants to perform. Offer him to build a steam locomotive from the cubes, which will go only if you can read the resulting word together. Remember what sounds animals make, and add them. If ideas are over, refer to the book of the author of the methodology “Letter. Reading. Account ", which offers parents a lot of entertaining educational games.

    The technique of Maria Montessori

The most popular of all, was developed at the beginning of the twentieth century, but has not lost its relevance so far. The author believes that first parents should teach children to write, and only then proceed to reading:

    • The development of fine motor skills. So that writing with a pen or pencil does not cause difficulties, first teach the child to paint and outline objects along the contour. An exercise in which you need to connect the dots to get a picture is good. By drawing pictures, he will develop a brush, his fingers will begin to obey.
    • Tactile contact. The kid should feel the letters, understand what they feel. To do this, buy cubes or books with a convex alphabet or cut it out of velvet paper. Using a finger on individual details, the preschooler will remember the shape, it will be easier for him to reproduce them in the future. Invite him to guess what is written by closing his eyes.
    • Composing a word. Use the same cubes or paper cards.
    • Letter. Do not put pressure on your son or daughter. Someone begins with the individual elements of the alphabet, and someone immediately writes sentences. Marina Montessori believed that an individual approach to each specific case was needed. Diversify the learning process so that children do not lose interest in it. Young people really like the "letter on the semolina". Despite the name, you can use any grits. Put a little on a flat plate and invite the child to write something with a sharp stick. This exercise is also convenient because it can be performed outside the home. When boys and girls write in sand or land, they improve the skill.
    • Reading. Children begin to put individual letters into words in parallel with the process of writing them.

Our article told you how to teach a preschooler to read at home. Remember that in the learning process you need to regularly praise the baby, emphasize his successes and gently correct defects, without resorting to screaming and punishment. We wish you success and believe that our recommendations will help you educate a genius.

At what age should a child be taught to read?

There is no consensus. Some parents are convinced that the child should be taught reading at 4-5 years old. Others lower the bar to 2-3 years. Still others insist that the child should not be “tormented” before school. Like, teaching reading is the task of school teachers. Who to believe?

Each child develops at his own pace. Therefore, do not become attached to a specific age, but evaluate how much the future reader has “matured” to learning.

A child is definitely ready to learn to read if he:

    • knows how to build holistic sentences, speaks clearly and coherently,
    • easily pronounces and distinguishes the sounds of speech, does not confuse consonant syllables (zhaz, yes) and letters in consonant words (code-cat),
    • distinguishes between the concepts of right-left, top-bottom,
    • pronounces the letters correctly,
    • showing interest in letters and reading.

If the child does not meet the criteria in some way, but shows interest in letters and books, this is normal. The speech is not as coherent as we would like - we communicate more with the child, ask and answer his questions.Instead of c, we get w - we find speech therapy exercises, perform special gymnastics, or go to a speech therapist.

Does the child no longer just examine books with illustrations, but asks or even demands to read something or tries to figure it out himself?
The time has come. Do not miss the moment.

    Syllable reading (phonetic method)

The classic technique used in kindergartens and elementary schools. First, the child learns to pronounce sounds (phonetics) and letters, then combine them into syllables and whole words.

Typical arsenal: alphabet, primer, cards with letters and syllables.

    • “+” A child easily hears sounds in words and pronounces them, gets rid of speech defects in case he has them.
    • “-” The method is not suitable for younger preschoolers (3-4 years old) and younger children, because It requires a certain level of knowledge and takes a lot of time.

Glen Doman's Cards (reading whole words)

The method consists in the fact that already from infancy a child begins to show cards with pictures and words, clearly speaking them. Children perceive words not in parts, but as whole units.

    • "+" The ability to start learning from early childhood, the development of phenomenal memory.
    • “-” A side effect of Glenn Doman’s methodology is literacy problems, difficulties in parsing words by composition.

    In-game exercises

LogicLike team regularly creates interesting tasks for the development of logical thinking and other major abilities in children.

Entertaining games and tasks for the development of thinking in children from 5 years.

We also have an author's set of exercises that will help the child develop reading skills with interest:

    Secret Letters

Try to write letters to the child on behalf of his beloved character or toy so that he wants to answer them. You can purchase in the book and ready-made materials for such letters.

Example: notebook “I will teach you to read” with letters of the gnome Gosh.

    Psychological pressure

“You are already 5 years old, but you still cannot read! How will they take you to school? ”Intimidation will only ward off the child’s desire to do. Or even cause fear of reading.

English writer Aidan Chambers in his book “Tell. We read, think, discuss, "wrote that it is important to praise a small reader for every achievement. So he went to look at the books, took one of them, and then suddenly decided to switch to another. And each of these steps is important.

    Read books with your child

Discuss and retell their content so that the child understands and remembers the text. You can read aloud interesting excerpts from books and invite the child to find out what will be discussed next, after reading the book yourself.

Show the children that reading is the key to the door behind which many magical worlds lie. A child who is keen on books will study with interest and learn new things every day. Be a child mentor who will always support and give advice.

How to quickly and easily teach a child to read

The program of the comprehensive school is complicated every year and the fact that at 6-7 years old the kid comes to study already prepared is of great importance and increases his chances of successful mastering of many subjects. Parents who are not able to educate their children in preschool institutions should do it themselves, so many have a logical question, how to teach a child to read syllables at home?

Home schooling: how and how many years to start

The success of the baby may depend on the overall degree of its development. If mom and dad worked a lot with him, used special games and programs for individual disclosure of abilities at an early age, then to master reading did not cause him any special difficulties. Such children grasp everything on the fly, and parents only need to correctly explain and consolidate (repeat) the material they have learned.

If you practice with your baby from infancy, you can teach him literate reading as early as 3 years old - he will understand and master everything perfectly, because it is at this age that children form logic, they are sociable, talk a lot and seek to learn the world. In principle, you can do this later - at 4 and 5 years.

Conventionally, training can be divided into three main stages:

    • first it’s important that the child firmly learns the alphabet - he must instantly recognize the letters,
    • when this process is brought to automatism, you can proceed to the second part - folding letters into syllables,
    • the third final stage is the folding of syllables into whole words and the elaboration of a full reading.

Based on the experience of moms and dads, the first lessons, when the alphabet is learned, are given to most children easily. Difficulties usually arise when folding syllables. This is the most important point in all training. If the child understands that the consonants and vowels have a different sound, it will be easier for him to learn to combine them.

According to some specially developed methods, for example, Nadezhda Zhukova (see the primer N. Zhukova and read reviews here) and Elena Bakhtina (primer E. Bakhtina see and read reviews here). These techniques allow you to understand how to properly teach your child to read syllables quickly and easily. The proposed methods of teaching reading are suitable even for children under three years of age - they fully master reading, which discourages others.

To understand when a child can start lessons, you can, based on some of their signs:

    • the baby has no problems with pronunciation, and he does not need the help of a speech therapist,
    • a small person can express his thoughts clearly and logically, using whole sentences in colloquial speech,
    • the child is well-versed in the environment, clearly perceives the difference in sounds in words and knows how to repeat them correctly.
    • in addition, the child must have a desire to learn new things, including a craving for reading comprehension.

To determine the degree of readiness for classes, it is enough that the baby can associate letters with those subjects on which they begin. Usually, after the adult has correctly explained that a fruit or animal begins with one letter or another, a child ready to study, easily remembers such information and correctly identifies the letter and the physical body on which it begins.

    Practical Tips for Parents

First of all, it is desirable to use visual aids. It can be vivid pictures, coloring, cubes, many parents use instructional videos or cartoons that help the child quickly understand what is required of him.

There are also certain rules on how to best present educational material to children:

    1. No need to teach them to remember letters in this form - “me”, “de” or “ge”, the child, in fact, learns the sound and will be correct if he repeats his mother “M”, “D”, and “G” . But vowels should be pronounced long, for example, "III", "UUU". You always need to start with the letter “A”, after it is determined correctly, you can begin to make the syllables “pa-pa”, “ma-ma” with this letter. You should not immediately load the baby with several vowels during one lesson when connecting them into syllables.
    2. The gaming moment is important, firstly, so children can relax a bit, and secondly, it is better to absorb the necessary information. You can use various toys and, at the same time, put their names in simple words - “li-sa”, “cat”, mash ”and others.
    3. The three-syllable words should be studied last, when the child has already understood the essence and he manages to quickly add simple syllables. In order not to confuse and complicate the task for the baby, you need to teach the child in stages.
    4. At the very beginning of classes, you should not immediately use vowels such as "Yu" and "Y", also for hissing sounds, since it is quite difficult for children to pronounce them.

Even knowing how to teach a child to read quickly and correctly, parents will have to be patient in order to go through all these responsible and necessary steps with their child.

It is also important for parents to prepare themselves for such a crucial process: read the relevant literature and various techniques that help to present educational material more easily and affordably, and it is easier for children to perceive it,

You need to be engaged constantly, if it is impossible to allocate a lot of time for lessons, you need to do this daily, at least 20 minutes of time. Every 15 minutes, it is advisable to give the child a rest and turn his attention to something else - everyone knows how quickly young children get tired of the same actions. Before starting a new lesson, you should always repeat the topics you have already learned.

Any success of the child should be noted - this makes the children completely surrender to new knowledge and try their best. But it is better not to overdo it and rush things. Let the education go as it should, and perhaps it will take more time, but the child will confidently know everything that is needed and will fully prepare for the difficult school program.

Knowing how to teach a child to read syllables at home, you can achieve excellent success, but an indispensable condition is the interest of the baby himself. Parents should keep in mind that too early education can cause disorders of the nervous system and psyche in children, various phobias and even stuttering. Because of this, in the future, children may not have a normal relationship with peers and other people.

Training will only give positive results when it takes place continuously, and not only at the time allotted for this purpose. During games, walks, you can pay attention to various objects and events and motivate the child to train already acquired skills. First, on his part, it will be a game, and then a completely conscious literacy training. It is important not only to know how to teach a child to read quickly, but also from childhood to instill in him a love of knowledge and determination.

    Timely reading training

In Russia, children entering school are usually six to eight years old. The curriculum of educational institutions implies the ability to quickly master first-graders reading, writing and counting from scratch. But life's realities indicate the opposite.

It is impossible to quickly teach a kid all the basic skills. Therefore, parents should take care of their development in advance. If you do not deal with the child at home before school, then an excessive load, poor academic performance and unflattering comparisons with classmates will surely lead him to psychological trauma.

By school, the child should be familiar with reading

Tip: you need to start introducing the child to the letters two years before school, to master reading - in about a year.

If the kid, as prescribed by domestic law, goes to first grade at the full six and a half years old, then you need to acquire the skills of reading syllables and words from the age of five.

Skills to be developed in a six year old child

The degree of readiness for reading depends on the level of intellectual development, mental and emotional maturity of a preschooler. After all, the ultimate goal of the parent is to teach the child not to mindlessly reproduce what was written aloud, but to understand the meaning of what he read. Therefore, before starting reading instruction, it is important to make sure that:

    • the kid has enough vocabulary,
    • his speech is correct and literate,
    • the child has no obvious defects in sound reproduction.

If the vocabulary of a preschooler is small, his speech is replete with errors or defects, it is too early to start reading. At home it is better to work on the overall development of the baby. By performing speech therapy exercises it is important to teach him how to pronounce sounds correctly.

Preparing for school should begin at 5 years old

Reading requires a long retention of attention. It is impossible to quickly learn to read or learn the multiplication table with a constantly distracted child. Fidget concentration skills can be developed in a variety of ways, including drawing up pictures from puzzles, painting, games with the designer.

It is important to teach the child to drive a book with a finger or a pointer. If this was not enough, and the baby jumps from line to line or often loses the place where he left off, it is worth cutting a window in a white sheet and moving it to the desired area.

For most children, reading is hard work. It is important to take care of the positive perception of this process.

Acquaintance with the letters must begin with 2-3 years

From two to three years old, the child should be gradually accustomed to books. It is worthwhile to dwell on specimens with vivid detailed pictures that can be viewed and described verbally. At six to seven years old, large print books are useful for extracurricular reading.

Tip: It is important to read your child aloud. Ideally, reading at night should be a daily evening ritual. On the one hand, it will give the child a lot of pleasure, on the other hand, it will become an example to follow.

    Memorizing letters

There are different points of view regarding whether it is correct to memorize all the letters of the alphabet before starting to read. The author of the original literacy teaching method N.S. Zhukova warns against such actions. The ABC book she developed is designed so that the child learns letters gradually. As the number of familiar letters increases, syllables become more diverse and complex, and then turn into words.

    Magnetic Alphabet Beetle

Parents who choose to follow one of the author's methods of reading instruction should follow the recommendations of their developers. And those who decided to teach the child to read in the old way have no special choice. They will first have to learn the alphabet, and only then start reading. It is advisable to show letters to a child from two to three years old.

The original way to memorize letters

An important point: memorize consonants with a child as they are read in a word - without the sound of "e." Correctly pronounce "p", not "re" or "er." If this rule is not followed, the syllable “ra” the child will read as “rea” or “era”.

Memorization of letters is facilitated by their visualization. Letter cubes, magnetic alphabet, interactive poster with the alphabet - any auxiliary equipment is useful. First, the child must be taught to quickly search for the desired letter among the proposed ones. Later, with it, you can lay out a letter from sticks or matches, sculpt it from plasticine and, finally, write it. Those who confuse letters will be rightly invited to feel their voluminous images with their eyes closed. Tactile sensations help memorization.

It is necessary to monitor the correct pronunciation of sounds

Tip: when memorizing vowels, it is important to pay attention to the child's sound reproduction scheme. For example, “A” - the mouth is wide open, “y” - the lips with a tube, and “e” - the mouth is stretched to the sides.

Separate rules regarding memorization of letters

It is important to encourage the child to listen to the words and look for the right sounds in them. If the letter “o” is memorized, you can tell the child the words beginning on it: cloud, deer, donkey. To check how much the lesson is learned, interspersed with the words “o” correctly suggest the child and words starting with other letters. In a similar way, the child can quickly be taught to find the desired letter at the end and middle of the word.

It is important to know: it is easiest for a child to highlight the initial vowel in a word (especially if it is stressed). It is relatively simple to point to the final consonant. At the same time, it is very difficult for the baby to isolate the initial consonant and the last vowel.

It is useful to write letters with paints, felt-tip pens with a child. It is important that in your imagination, when identifying a sound and a letter, it is not limited to a specific size or color. You can show different fonts in newspapers, on containers and packaging, on signs, etc.

Tip: a child under 6 years old should definitely not be confused, offering him to read capital letters along with printed ones.

Moreover, you should not teach a preschooler to write in words at home. The skills acquired at home may not correspond to the teacher's ideas regarding inclination, continuous or separate writing, method of connection and the like.

    Reading syllables

It is important that in the perception of a child of 5-6 years old, the syllable, rather than a separate letter, becomes the reading unit. The combination of letters should be perceived by the preschooler as a single graphic element. If you do not pay enough attention to this issue, the child’s ability to read syllables and words can be fixed for a long time. This will prevent him from reading syllables and perceiving words. A child who has learned the wrong reading technique will eventually have to retrain.

It is worth trying the following method of learning to merge letters into one syllable. One letter is written at the beginning of the line, the other at the end. A connecting arrow is drawn between them. The child is invited to slowly follow her with his finger and all this time “pull” (draw out) the first sound. The second sound is enough to pronounce briefly. Example: A? U pronounced as “aaau”, N? O as “ntno.”

    Post-syllables help continuous pronunciation

As a result of such trainings, the child should independently read two-letter syllables by moving his finger along the connecting line. Syllables should be offered to a child in the following order:

    • consisting of vowels (ao, ua),
    • open, consisting of one consonant and one vowel (na, yes-),
    • closed, consisting of one vowel and one consonant (an-, em-).

It is difficult for many children to determine the sequence of letters in one syllable. For example, “am-” they can read as “ma-" or vice versa. The ability to correctly combine letters in a two-letter syllable must be brought to automatism. It is possible to offer reading of three- and four-letter syllables only to preschoolers who read together two-letter syllables.

Reading syllables should not be considered only as preparation for reading words. Reading syllables, especially complex and unusual (shp, vpu, smo, zdra) trains the skills of correct sound pronunciation. Unlike words, a child does not mentally associate abstract syllables with anything, so reading syllables eliminates the temptation to read at random.

    Pictures help quick reading

Tip: in parallel with reading, it is worth teaching a 6-year-old child to contrast syllables with hard and soft consonants (mummy, nyyu, ko-kyo). This will help the child write them correctly in school.

    Reading words

Traditionally, the simplest words are those consisting of two repeating two-letter open syllables such as “mom” and “dad”. Children who previously trained to read complex syllables can easily master words consisting of one sentence (cat, cancer, sleep, choir, bow).

When reading the words, children may have problems with the placement of stress. This problem does not have a universal solution. Reading the word, the child will have to “recognize” it. There is only one way to provide him with such an opportunity - expanding his horizons and vocabulary. It is important that the parent controls his child's understanding of the meaning of the words read.

Reading words by syllables - cards

Tip: if a child has problems moving from syllables to words, it’s worth simplifying his task and dividing words into syllables.

Example: mu ha, luna, elephants, string. If the child does not have such problems, you can immediately read the words written together.

    Reading offers

A 5-6 year old kid quickly realizes that a sentence is a complete thought. At this stage, it's time to introduce the child to the punctuation marks (".", "!", "?"). According to them, the little reader should be guided where the sentence ends. To begin with, it is worth offering the child sentences consisting of two words such as "Kolya walks."

The easiest way to read sentences is

The main difficulty in reading sentences is to remember the previous words when reading the next. The best way to teach your child how to write a three-word sentence is as follows.

The first word is read. The child must remember him. Repeating it from memory, he reads the second word and also remembers it. Further, the baby repeats from memory the first and second word and reads the third. Thus, the compilation and understanding of the proposal as a whole is achieved.
